Elmira, NY -- Coming off a 3-2 loss to Empire 8 Conference foe Hartwick College, the Elmira College field hockey team will be traveling to take on Wilkes University at 4:00 p.m. today.
Last Time OutThe EC women are coming off a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Hartwick College. After a scoreless first half, Hartwick struck first nearly eight minutes into the second half putting the Hawks up 1-0.
Kourtny Schwerdtman '15 evened things up after she received a long cross from
Julia Derco '17 just 2:51 later. The Hawks would re-take with 17:54 to play but EC again tied the score when
Katie Carroll '18 followed-up an
Alli Gilbert '16 shot to put home her second goal of the season. Unfortunately for EC, Hartwick would net the game-winning goal with 2:05 left on the clock to down Elmira, 3-2.
Freedom Conference FoesToday's matchup against Wilkes University marks the third Freedom Conference opponent the Purple and Gold have competed against on the road this season. Earlier this season, the Purple and Gold played Delaware Valley College and DeSales University in the same weekend.
Scouting WilkesThe Colonels come into today's matchup with a 4-8 overall record and a 2-2 mark inside the Freedom Conference. Marrisa Surdy leads Wilkes in almost every offensive statistical category, coming in with 29 points, 10 goals, nine assists, 71 shots, and 42 shots on goal. The Colonels have seen four separate goalkeepers this season with Lauren Burrows seeing the majority of the time. Burrows has posted a 2-4 record, while recording a team-high 26 saves this season.
