Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's soccer team looks to get back to .500 on the season when they travel to Alfred, NY to take on the Saxons of Alfred University. The Empire 8 Conference game is scheduled for Saturday, October 25th with a 7:00 p.m. start time.
Last Time OutThe Soaring Eagles lost the first game of their season-ending three-game road trip, 2-0, to St. John Fisher College. An unfortunate bounce from a Cardinal cross led to a 1-0 deficit early in the first half. EC looked for the equalizer, and nearly got it from
Mackenzie Donohue'15 on a free kick, but the Purple and Gold trailed 1-0 at halftime. Elmira continued to press for the game-tying goal, but St. John Fisher sealed EC's downfall with their second goal late in the second half.
Series HistoryAs Empire 8 Conference members, Elmira and Alfred University have met once each year since the 2000 season. EC has dominated the series, posting an 11-1-2 record in the 14-year span. The Soaring Eagles enter Saturday's matchup with three straight wins in the series, the last two being shutouts, and riding a nine-game unbeaten streak dating back to 2005.
A Look at the SaxonsThe Saxons of Alfred University enter Saturday's game with a 3-11-2 overall record and a 0-6 Empire 8 Conference mark. Alfred opened the 2014 season with a 3-2-1 record, but the Saxons have been winless in their last 10 games, including losing their last four, going into Saturday's game.
