Elmira, NY -- The No. 3 nationally ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team will open the 2014-15 season this weekend at the East-West Classic in Northfield, VT. Elmira will take on No. 2 Norwich University in the first game of the East-West Classic on Saturday, November 1st at 2:00 p.m.
Season OpenerDating back to their first collegiate season, Elmira has gone 9-2-2 in season opening games. Elmira has tied their opponents in the last two season openers and have not had a season opening win since the 2010-11 season. The 2010-11 season opening win came against New England College, Elmira's first year playing in the East-West Classic.
A Precursor to GreatnessThe East-West Classic has become a launching point for national championship runs as the last four national champions have begun their season in Northfield, VT. Norwich, the East-West Classic host, started the stretch in 2011, followed by RIT, Elmira, and most recently, Plattsburgh State.
100-Points on the HorizonAshley Ryan '15 enters this weekend with 97 career points on 42 goals and 55 assists. Three points for Ryan would make her the ninth 100-point scorer in Elmira College women's ice hockey history. The last Elmira College 100-point scorer was

All-Time vs. NorwichElmira is 4-5-1 against Norwich University after going 1-2 against the Cadets last season. Last year, both teams beat each other on their home ice. Norwich got wins at the East-West Classic and the NCAA Quarterfinals while the Soaring Eagles picked up their lone win at the Murray Athletic Center on January 10th.
All-Time vs. ManhattanvilleThe Soaring Eagles have a 17-5-3 edge in the all-time series against Manhattanville, including two wins in NCAA Championship games. The first meeting between the two teams dates back to the 2001-02 season.
