Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's ice hockey team will look to get back in the win column when they host SUNY Potsdam for a pair of ECAC West Conference games this weekend. EC will take on the Bears at the Murray Athletic Center on Saturday at 3:00 p.m., then close out the weekend, and the Home for the Holidays event, against Potsdam on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. in the First Arena.
Fourth Time in Program HistoryFor the fourth time in Elmira College women's ice hockey history, EC has opened a season with seven wins in their first eight games. The previous three seasons that this has occurred were 2001-02, 2002-03, and 2012-13, all of which were national championship seasons for the Purple and Gold.
EC on the Power PlayElmira has gone on the power play 45 times through the season's first eight games and has converted those opportunities into goals at one of the best rates in the country. The Soaring Eagles have scored 14 power-play goals, which equates to an efficiency rating of 31.1 percent. EC leads the nation in power-play goals scored and ranks fourth in power-play percentage.
Series HistoryEC and SUNY Potsdam have squared-off 13 times since SUNY Potsdam introduced their women's ice hockey program in the 2008-09 season. The Soaring Eagles hold a 12-1-0 in the series history, including victories in each of the last four meetings.
A Look at the BearsSUNY Potsdam enters this weekend of play on a three-game losing streak, all of which have come on the road against ECAC West Conference opponents. The Bears are led offensively by the 2013-14 ECAC West and USCHO Rookie of the Year Jordan Ott, who has recorded seven points on four goals and three assists.
