Pine Valley, NY --
It was a 1-0 game entering the third period, but the Elmira College women's ice hockey team exploded for three goals in the final period to pull away from Buffalo State, 4-1. Ashley Ryan '15 recorded the game-winner early in the third period and also picked up an assist on EC's first goal to tally a team-high two points on the afternoon.

It did not take long for the Soaring Eagles to tally the first goal of the game as Phoebe Piku'16 rifled a shot from just inside the blue line that dipped below the glove of Bengal goaltender, Jordan Lee. McKenna Farole '15 and Ryan added assists on the play. Elmira continued to apply pressure on Lee, recorded 17 shots in the period, but they were only able to get that one goal as they took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

The second period was dominated statistically by the Purple and Gold, outshooting Buffalo State 15-5, but neither team was able to find the back of the net as the score remained 1-0 in favor of EC.

The Soaring Eagles came alive in the third period as they netted three goals to put the game out of reach. Ryan set the tone for the final period as she made it a 2-0 game just 55 seconds after the opening faceoff. Lindsay Burrows '15 made a nice long-distance pass to find her teammate for the score. The Bengals would answer back to make it a 2-1 game after Megan Niestyty fought through a crowd of people in front of the net and forced the puck past Lisa Marshall '14.

EC had a response just over two minutes to kill any momentum Buffalo State had. Anna Tude '17 picked a great spot to score the first goal of her career as she went bar-down from the slot to make it a 3-1 game. Tude's power-play goal came off the rebound of a Katie Gaskin '14 shot, giving Gaskin her fifth assist in her last three games. Erin Weston'15 all but put the game out of reach with under 10 minutes to play with EC's fourth goal of the game, punching home another rebound goal created by a Brooke Wilgosh '15 shot. Tanis Lamoureux '14 was also credited with an assist on the score, giving her 92 points in her career.

The Soaring Eagles will finish off the two-game series with Buffalo State tomorrow afternoon as the two teams will meet at the Murray Athletic Center for a 2:00 p.m. game.
