Men’s Ice Hockey Late Third Period Goal Forces Tie

The Elmira College men's ice hockey team (13-8-1, 8-3-1 ECAC West) forced a 1-1 tie with Manhattanville College (11-9-2, 4-6-2 ECAC West)  when a shot got redirected off Michael Collins '16 to find the back of the net with 1:26 left in regulation to force an over-time period. Ryan deMelo '15 made 40 saves in the tie.

With six seconds left in the first period the Valiants slipped one past deMelo to take the 1-0 lead. Manhattanville held the 11-5 shot advantage in the first.

In the second period neither team found the back of the net, but both had to kill off three penalties a piece. The Valiants outshoot the Soaring Eagles 18-6 in the second period.

With 2:29 seconds left in the game, both teams had matching penalties and went on a 5-on-5. Jesper Strale '14 tossed the puck over to Taylor Love '16 who took a shot from the blue line that got redirected off of Collins' shoulder to find its way past the Valliants netminder to tie the game up at 1-1 with 1:26 left in regulation.

As neither team found the back of the net in the overtime period, the game ended in a tie. Manhattanville held the shot advantage in the overtime period, 4-1, and in the game, 41-24.

The Soaring Eagles will play again tomorrow, February 15th, to conclude the weekend series with Manhattanville College. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 p.m.
