Cortland, NY --
The Elmira College women's ice hockey team (17-4-1, 12-1-0 ECAC West) used three third-period goals to break a 1-1 tie and defeat SUNY Cortland (2-18-2, 1-11-1), 4-1. Tanis Lamoureux '14 scored the eventual game-winning goal just 13 seconds into the third period, one of her two points on the afternoon. With the two points, she now has 99 in her career leaving Lamoureux just one point shy of joining the 100-point club.

Statistically the first period and a half was dominated by the Soaring Eagles, but there was nothing to show for it as the score remained 0-0. Cortland changed that about eight minutes into the second period when Laura Drew went bar-down on Elmira goaltender Lisa Marshall '14 to give the Red Dragons the 1-0 lead. EC had their chances almost immediately to respond, but were unable to as Cortland continued to hold the one goal advantage.

It looked as though the Purple and Gold would trail heading into the third period, but assistant captain Brooke Wilgosh '15 tied the game up at one apiece with 11 seconds left in the period. With the clock ticking down, Wilgosh received the puck near the blue line, deked a defender, and skated near the faceoff circle. She passed the puck towards two of her teammates, but after a few deflections in front of the net, the puck came bouncing in her direction and Wilgosh fired the shot home. Cassidy Delainey '15 and Ashton Hogan '15 picked up assists on the goal as Elmira went into the second intermission tied at one.

Elmira rode the momentum of that goal into the start of the third period as the Soaring Eagles struck just 13 seconds in to take their first lead of the game. Lamoureux won the faceoff and the puck went over to Erin Weston'15. Weston passed it back to Lamoureux who buried her shot into the back of the net.

Lamoureux would return the favor to Weston about 11 minutes later as Weston would give the Soaring Eagles a 3-1 lead. Lamoureux, who was jockeying for position in front of the net, received a pass from Ashley Ryan '15 and immediately fed a backhanded pass to a cutting Weston. Weston lifted her quick shot over the goaltender for her ninth goal of the season.

The final goal of the afternoon came with 3:17 remaining as Anna Tude '17 got in on the action. Katie Gaskin '14 dumped the puck behind the net which caromed over towards Tude. The Stockholm, Sweden native hit a hard one-timer at the net which deflected off the goalie's pad and into the back of the net, giving Elmira the decisive 4-1 advantage.

The Soaring Eagles will return to SUNY Cortland tomorrow, February 15th to wrap-up the season series with the Red Dragons. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
