Stamford, CT -- The men's ice hockey team (14-8-1, 9-3-1 ECAC West) cruised to a 7-4 victory over Manhattanville College (11-10-2, 4-7-2 ECAC West) today. 13 different players tallied points while seven posted multiple points in tonight's action.
Ryan deMelo '15 made 21 saves in his third win of the season.
Elmira found the scoreboard first with just 1:22 left in the first period when
Josh Burnell '15 and
Carter Shinkaruk '16 set up a shot by
Brian Depp '16 who buried the puck behind the Valiants' netminder. Elmira held the shot advantage in the first, 12-7.
5:47 into the second period, Manhattanville tied the game up after Tanner Hicks '17 slipped one past deMelo. The Soaring Eagles would re-take the lead just 12 seconds later after
Jordan Robertson '16 found the back of the net after some quality passes from
Eddie Nolan '17 and
Dylan Herold '14. 3:44 later, Roberston scored his second goal of the game when Herold and
Marcus Astesana '17 tossed the puck over to him to up EC's lead to 3-1. The EC men increased their lead to 4-1 after
Jesper Strale '14 and
Rob Simpson '16 set up a shot by
Alexander Taulien '17 who found the back of the net. 2:03 later,
Michael Collins '16 passed the puck to
Jarryd ten Vaanholt '16 and he blasted the puck into the net. The
Valiants cut Elmira's lead to 5-2 after Manhattanville scored a power play goal with 3:23 left in the period. EC led in shots in the second period, 16-8.
With 8:24 left in the third period, Strale netted the Purple and Gold's sixth goal of the game with Taulien and
Max Balaban '16 credited with the assists. With less than three minutes left in the third period, Manhattanville scored back-to-back goals to cut EC's lead to 6-4. With 28 seconds left in the game, Nolan tossed the puck in the empty net to seal the deal for the Soaring Eagles. Ten Vaanholt and Collins were credited with the assists on the play. The Soaring Eagles took the shot advantage in the third, 14-10 and finished the game 42-25.
Elmira will host their last two games of the regular season against Hobart College on February 21st and 22
nd. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 p.m. on both days.
