Pine Valley, NY --
On an afternoon where one Soaring Eagle was honored for a career milestone, it was Ashton Hogan '15 who had a career game, leading the Elmira College women's ice hockey team (19-4-1, 14-1-0) to a 6-0 victory over Neumann University (6-16-2, 2-11-2). Hogan registered her first career hat trick and then some, scoring four goals in the victory for four points, both of which are single-game highs for the junior forward.

With the four-goal performance, Hogan ties three other former Soaring Eagles, including EC great Laura Hurd '05, for second all-time for goals scored in a game. Briana Saltstone '14 also turned in an impressive performance, scoring two goals and tallying one assist for a career-high three points.

Shots came at a premium early on in the first period as both teams did a quality job of negating the opponent's attack. But Elmira finally broke through the Knights' defense after they were awarded their first power play opportunity of the night with 7:24 left to play in the first period.

The Soaring Eagles used a plethora of crisp passes to get the Neumann penalty kill unit on the move. EC took full advantage of the movement as Brooke Wilgosh '15 had an open lane to the goal and fired a shot on net. The initial shot was saved by Neumann goaltender Justina Mayr, but the rebound was tapped by Cassidy Delainey '15 over to Hogan who fired the shot into the back of the net for the power play goal. Elmira would receive another power play opportunity, but the women were unable to score on that one as the Soaring Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

After a one goal first period, the Purple and Gold erupted for a three-goal second period to take control of the game. Saltstone got in on the scoring action with back-to-back goals just three minutes apart from one another.

Saltstone's first goal came with 9:44 left in the second period after she cleaned up a rebound from a Delainey shot. Her second goal came just under three minutes with a sequence started by Tanis Lamoureux '14, who was honored pre-game for becoming the eighth Elmira College women's ice hockey player to reach 100 career points after getting her 100th career point last week against Cortland State. Lamoureux passed the puck down to Ashley Ryan '15 who then zipped a pass across the ice, in front of the net, to where Saltstone was filling the lane. Saltstone redirected the Ryan pass up over the shoulder of Mayr, to give EC the 3-0 lead.

Hogan capped-off the three-goal second period with her second goal of the night with both teams playing four-on-four hockey. Hogan received a pass from Saltstone and finished the shot, beating Mayr on her stick-side to give Elmira the 4-0 advantage following two periods of play.

Hogan's career night continued into the third period after the junior picked up back-to-back goals from her special teams efforts. Her first goal of the period was a shorthanded goal, the first of her career, which came after Wilgosh intercepted a pass and started the break the other way. Wilgosh carried the puck into the offensive zone and found Hogan for the score.

Hogan added to her goal total just three minutes later after she scored her second power play goal of the afternoon after Hogan cleaned up yet another EC rebound. Wilgosh passed the puck over to Ryan who fired a shot from the slot. The shot was initially saved but Hogan was there to send the puck into the back of the net to give the Soaring Eagles the 6-0 edge.

The Purple and Gold would go on to win by the 6-0 score as the women would do just enough to help preserve the shutout without adding to their goal total.

Lisa Marshall '14 made a handful of impressive saves in both the second and third periods as Neumann attempted to get on the scoreboard. Marshall stopped all 25 shots she faced on the afternoon to preserve her fifth shutout of the season.

The Soaring Eagles will conclude their regular season with a home matchup against Neumann University tomorrow, February 23rd at 3:00 p.m. EC will need to win tomorrow's contest to keep pace with No. 1 Plattsburgh State, who swept Oswego State this weekend to push their ECAC West record to 15-1-0. If Elmira can win tomorrow in regulation time, home ice for the ECAC West tournament will be decided by a coin flip.

Tomorrow's game will also be Class of 2014 recognition day where the five seniors on this year's squad will be recognized for their efforts throughout the years.
