Pine Valley, NY -- The Elmira College women's ice hockey team was 1:12 away from ending the weekend with four conference points, but an overtime goal by No. 1 nationally ranked Plattsburgh State sealed a 2-1 overtime loss for the Soaring Eagles.  With the loss, Elmira and Plattsburgh are locked into a two-way for first place in the ECAC West Conference standings.

Elmira netminder Lisa Marshall '14 did her part in net today, stopping 56 shots.  Marshall's 56 save effort is a career-high, marking the second straight game she has recorded career high saves.

Tanis Lamoureux '14 scored Elmira's lone goal, while Ashton Hogan '15 and Cassidy Delainey '15 picked up assists.  Lamoureux's goal ups her career total points to 97, just three away from becoming the eighth player in Elmira College history to reach the 100-point plateau.

Today's first period had a similar feel to yesterdays as Plattsburgh's offensive attack was in full effect.  It looked like the Cardinals were going to take an early 1-0 lead at the 18:38 mark, when a shot caromed off the pipe before Marshall made a diving save to ice the puck.

Elmira had a quality scoring chance early on as well at the 15:10 mark, when Tanis Lamoureux '14 fired a one-timer at point blank range.  Plattsburgh goaltender Sydney Aveson barely got a pad on it, keeping things scoreless through the early going.

The Soaring Eagles had a pair of scares shortly after, starting at the 13:33  mark when a scrum built-up in front of the EC net, forcing Marshall to make two saves on her heels.  Then, about two minutes later, a miscue in Elmira's offensive zone turned into a ¬Plattsburgh rush, and eventually a one-time shot by Giovanna Senese from the slot. Marshall again came up big for the Soaring Eagles, making a pad save to keep things even at 0-0.

EC had one last quality opportunity to score in the first period when Erin Weston '15 fired a shot from the left faceoff circle.  The shot would rebound off the Plattsburgh netminder's pad, leaving Lamoureux with a rebound shot, which would unfortunately be sent back by Aveson.  Both teams would enter the first intermission tied at 0-0.

In the second period, Plattsburgh broke through for the game's opening goal at the 4:58 mark. Scoring the Plattsburgh goal was Jordan Caldwell, who slipped a wrist shot through traffic, beating Marshall by the narrowest of margins.

Elmira had a chance to even things up at the 13:10 mark when Ashton Hogan '15 showed-off her stick skills, beating several defenders and eventually juking out Aveson.  However, Hogan's backhand attempt missed wide, keeping things at 1-0.

The Cardinals had a chance to take a 2-0 lead when Alix Vakos broke away from the pack, creating a 1-on-1 with Marshall at the 5:47 mark.  Vakos made a quick move to the left, sending a wrist shot stick-side, but Marshall came up with a huge save to keep it a one-goal game.

Trailing 1-0, Elmira used the same approach yesterday that led to a goal, working the puck from high to low, and like yesterday, the offensive approach paid off.  At the 9:34 mark of the third period, EC sent the puck in from the blue line, creating a scrum in front of the Plattsburgh net.  In the scrum, the puck would bounce out from the reach of Aveson, allowing Tanis Lamoureux '14 to tickle the twine for a goal.  Hogan and Cassidy Delainey '15 each picked up assists on Lamoureux's goal.

From there, both teams battled back-and-forth, not giving an inch which would eventually lead to a 1-1 score at the end of regulation, forcing a five minute overtime period.  In extra-time, Plattsburgh kept the pressure on the Soaring Eagles, outshooting Elmira 9-to-1.  The lopsided stat line proved to be the difference as a fluttering shot by Chelsea VanGlahn would sneak past Marshall, sealing Plattsburgh's 2-1 overtime win.

Elmira will be back in action on Friday, February 14th when the EC women make the short trip to take on Cortland State.  The puck is scheduled to drop at 3:00 p.m. in Cortland, NY.
