Elmira, NY -- Fresh off their first win of the 2014 season, the Elmira College women's soccer team returns home for a pair of non-conference games against Liberty League Conference members, Clarkson University and St. Lawrence University. EC takes on the Golden Knights of Clarkson on Friday, September 12th at 4:00 p.m. and then squares-off with the Saints of St. Lawrence the following day at 2:00 p.m.

Last Time OutAfter a pair of close calls to start the season, the Soaring Eagles broke into the win column in their previous game against SUNY Potsdam, shutting out the Bears, 2-0. Courtney Burgazli '16 and Mackenzie Donohue '15 each scored for the Purple and Gold, Burgazli in the 43rd minute to give EC the lead and Donohue in the 85th minute to seal the Elmira victory. ELMIRA vs CLARKSONFirst Start, Great ResultAmanda Banner '17 received her first start in net of the 2014 season and did not disappoint, helping EC to a 2-0 shutout victory over SUNY Potsdam. Banner made three saves on the evening to record her third career shutout.
Series History EC and Clarkson have met eight times since the 2000 season and each year since 2009. The Soaring Eagles have a 3-4-1 record against the Golden Knights, but have not won since defeating Clarkson on the road in 2009. Elmira does have a 2-1-1 record against the Golden Knights at home, with the two teams playing to a 1-1 tie in the 2012 matchup at Campus Field.
Last Time OutThe Golden Knights of Clarkson University moved to 2-2 on the season after defeating SUNY Potsdam, 2-0 on September 7th. ELMIRA vs. ST. LAWRENCESaturni Making Her MarkAbby Saturni '18 has had an immediate impact on the Soaring Eagle offense through the first three games of her collegiate career, scoring one goal and adding an assist to tie for the team lead in points. Saturni scored in the season-opening tie against Bard College and then added her first collegiate assist against SUNY Potsdam.Series History EC has not had much success against St. Lawrence University throughout the years, going 1-11 against the Saints since 2002. Elmira has not defeated the Saints since 2004, when the Soaring Eagles pulled out a 1-0 victory at St. Lawrence. That was one of six one-goal games in the series, with the most recent coming in 2012 at Campus Field where the Saints escaped with a 3-2 win.Last Time OutThe Saints of St. Lawrence University rolled to their third win of the season in their last game, defeating Westfield State College, 6-2. St. Lawrence went up 1-0 just 1:47 into the game, but Westfield State answered with goals in the 18th and 26th minutes to take the 2-1 lead. It was all Saints from there on out though as St. Lawrence answered with scores in the 29th and 37th minutes to take a 3-2 lead at halftime. The Saints would add three goals in the second half to pull away for the 6-2 win.
Looking AheadFollowing this weekend's games, EC has a week away from competition as they prepare for their Empire 8 Conference opener against Hartwick College. The Soaring Eagles host the Hawks in the E8 showdown on Saturday, September 20th at 1:00 p.m. on EC's Campus Field.
