Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College field hockey team (1-7, 0-3 E8) fell to Nazareth College (6-4, 2-1 E8) 4-3 in overtime today. The Soaring Eagles were led by
Alli Gilbert '16 who registered two assists in today's action.
The Golden Flyers found the scoreboard first 19:27 into the first half to take a 1-0 lead.
Alison Mariano '18 evened things up with just 8:04 left in the first half after receiving a pass from Gilbert. A pass from
Atupele Machika '18 set up a goal by
Sarah McCaffrey '18 that would give EC a 2-1 lead with just one second remaining in the first half.
Nazareth scored two back-to-back goals to start the second half to take the 3-2 advantage over the EC women. With 19:26 left in regulation play, Gilbert found
Katie Carroll '18 who sent the ball into the net to tie the game up at 3-3. At the end of the second half, the score remained tied so the Soaring Eagles and the Golden Flyers went into to overtime.
9:15 into the first overtime period, Maggie Namy of Nazareth scored the game-winning overtime goal to life Nazareth over EC.
Julie Hockenberger '18 recorded 12 saves in the game today.
The EC women will have some time to rest before hosting Ithaca College at the Murray Athletic Center on October 4th at 1:00 p.m.
