Rochester, NY -- On the first day of the University of Rochester Tournament, the Elmira College women's volleyball team (1-2) split matches, dropping the first match to Penn State Behrend before sweeping Skidmore College (1-3). For Elmira, tonight's win over Skidmore marked EC's first win of the 2014 season.

Elmira College 0, Penn State Behrend 3 -- 25-14, 25-13, 25-15Elmira suffered a 3-0 loss in the opening match of the University of Rochester Tournament to Penn State Behrend. The Soaring Eagles struggled on offense, connecting on 24 of 91 attack attempts.
Paola Ortiz '16 registered a team-high seven kills while
Sami Hanes '16 setup the Elmira offense with 20 assists. Defensively,
Kelsey Ross '16 led Elmira with 10 digs.

Elmira College 3, Skidmore College 0 -- 25-22, 25-19, 25-22The Soaring Eagles saved their best for last as Elmira claimed a 3-0 victory over Skidmore in the final match of the night. Elmira's
Ashley Heiman '16 led the charge with a career-high 12 kills on 20 attempts, with just two errors, giving the junior middle hitter a superb .500 hitting percentage. Hanes added 36 assists, giving her a total of 56 in today's matches. On the defensive side of the ball, Ross and Ortiz led the way with 11 and 16 digs apiece, respectively.
Elmira will look to continue their strong play tomorrow when the Soaring Eagles conclude the University of Rochester Tournament with a pair of matches against The Sage Colleges and the University of Rochester. The Purple and Gold will take on Sage tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. before wrapping up tournament play against Rochester at 3:00 p.m.
