Hats Off to RyanIn Elmira's 8-2 win over Neumann,
Ashley Ryan '15 scored three goals. Ryan's three-goal performance is her first of the 2014-15 season and the second of her four-year career. The last time Ryan registered a hat-trick dates back to Elmira's national championship season, 2012-13, when she scored all three goals in a 3-0 victory over Manhattanville.
PK Unit Steps UpOver the weekend, Elmira's penalty kill unit did not allow a single power-play goal, denying the Knights of Neumann University on 11 power-play chances. Elmira's success on the penalty kill has improved their overall special teams percentage to 57.0, the second-highest percentage in all of NCAA Division III women's ice hockey.
Rare Tuesday MatchupElmira's Tuesday night game with Williams is the first weekday game the Soaring Eagles have played since the 2011-12 season when EC took down Hamilton College on a Wednesday night, 6-0. The Soaring Eagles have played in 23 weekday games in their 14-year history. In those 23 games, Elmira has won 16 of them and owns a 6-2-0 record in Tuesday night games.
Scouting WilliamsAfter beginning the season 1-3-0, the Ephs of Williams College have effectively turned things around, going 5-2-1 in their last eight games to improve to 6-5-1. Williams has not been overly successful on offense this season as not one of their players has double-digit points. However, defense has been the name of the game for the Ephs this year as Williams boasts the nation's ninth best scoring defense, limiting teams to 1.75 goals per game, and the country's top penalty kill unit with a 93.8 success rate.
