Huntingdon, PA -- The No. 10 Elmira College men's volleyball team (2-2) fell to No. 1 Juniata College (2-0) 3-0 today.
Mike Ellison '16 led offensively with 11 kills and added three digs, three block assists, two aces, and an assist in the game today.
Carlos Faccio '16 set up the offense with 26 assists and added five digs, two aces, and a kill while
Ryan Lamparter '17 tallied seven kills, three digs, an ace, and a block assist in today's action.
Rob Shade '15 led the Soaring Eagles defensively with seven digs while
Felix Garcia Ramos '16 chipped in with five kills, five digs, and a block assist.
The Eagles of Juniata began the first set with a 4-1 run while Elmira chipped away the Juniata's early lead and found themselves trailing 11-9. The Eagles then went on an 8-3 run to take a 19-11 lead. EC responded by going on a 9-2 run to trail 21-20. However, Juniata used a 4-1 run to close out the first set, 25-21.
The second set proved to be closer, as Juniata would get another 4-1 but the Eagles wouldn't build more than a four point lead through the entire set. With Juniata leading 19-18, the Eagles would use a 6-3 run to close out the second set, 25-21.
Elmira scored the first two points of the third set to take their largest lead of the day. The Soaring Eagles also had a 4-3 lead until Juniata went on a 6-2 run to take a 9-5 lead. EC battled Juniata the rest of the set but could not overcome the No. 1 team in the nation and fell in the third set, 25-20.
The Purple and Gold will compete in the second day of the Juniata Invitational tomorrow when the EC men take on No. 13 Baruch College at 1:00 p.m. and then Thiel College at 5:00 p.m.
