Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College men's ice hockey team will open up the New Year tonight against non-conference opponent Buffalo State.  Faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena in Pine Valley, NY.

Last Time Out
It has been exactly a month since Elmira's last contest when the Soaring Eagled downed visiting Wesleyan University, 7-6.  Jarryd ten Vaanholt '16 and Greg Whittle '16 led the way with four points apiece as each played registered a pair of goals and assists.

Congrats Sauly
Elmira's 7-6 win over Wesleyan gave Head Coach Aaron Saul '98 his 100th career win.  Of his 100 wins, 81 of them have come as the head coach of the Soaring Eagles while the other 19 can be credited to his time at SUNY Potsdam.

Depp's Game-Winner
In EC's one-goal win over Wesleyan, Brian Depp '16 scored the game-winning goal.  What made his game-winner more impressive was that it was scored shorthanded.  Depp's game-winner is the first shorthanded game-winning goal scored by an Elmira player since January 30, 2010.

High Scoring Games
Elmira's 7-6 win over Wesleyan marked the third game this season that the Soaring Eagles have played in a game with a combined total of eight or more goals.  EC is 2-1-0 in those three games and own a 9-5-1 record in eight-goal games dating back to last season.

First Game of the New Year
Tonight's game marks the first game of 2015 for the Elmira men. Dating back to the 1999-00 season, the Soaring Eagles have posted a 7-6-2 record in their first game of the New Year. EC, however, has not had as much success over the last five years, going 1-2-2 in New Year games, including a loss to Buffalo State last season.

Scouting the Bengals
Ryan Salkeld '16 will be a player to keep an eye on tonight as the third-year forward leads Buffalo State with 12 points on a team-leading six goals and six assists.  In net, look for rookie Ian Sylves '18 to be the go-to- guy.  Sylves has started in Buffalo State's last seven games, going 3-4-0 in those appearances.
