PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Elmira College men's hockey team traveled to Pittsburgh Friday afternoon for a UCHC contest with Chatham University. The Soaring Eagles fell to the Cougars, 4-1.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
An early Chatham power play helped get the Cougars on the board less than two minutes in, as they converted a one-timer on the man advantage to take a 1–0 lead. Just under two minutes later, the Cougars doubled their lead as Tyler Samodral buried a rebound. The Soaring Eagles pressed hard to get back in the game, creating chances and getting pucks on net, but the Chatham netminder stood tall. With four minutes left in the period, Samodral found his second of the game on the power play to make it 3–0, Cougars. Shortly after, an Owen Halloran deflection found the back of the net, and the Soaring Eagles got on the board to make it 3–1 after the first.
Early in the second period, a Chatham power play gave EC an opportunity to level the game. The Soaring Eagles pressured the Cougars netminder, generating three shots, but couldn't find the back of the net. Both sides created chances, with Elmira carrying most of the play, but the score remained unchanged until Chatham struck with just over five minutes left to make it 4–1. The Soaring Eagles headed into the second intermission trailing by three, outshooting Chatham 31–28.
EC battled hard to get back in the game and nearly cut the deficit to two when Birch Gorman wired a shot from the point off the post but couldn't get the bounce. Almost immediately after, a Michael Mumm snap shot rang off the crossbar. The Soaring Eagles controlled much of the third period but couldn't find the back of the net as they fell, 4–1.

UP NEXT
The Soaring Eagles will play a rematch against the Cougars tomorrow at 1:00 PM before returning home next weekend for their final games of the season. They will play Manhattanville University on Friday, February 20 at 7:00 PM as they celebrate First Responders Night. The following day they will play Manhattanville again at 4:00 PM and celebrate Senior Day.
