Live Coverage

Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's soccer team will end its current four-game road trip with a non-conference matchup against the Pioneers of Alfred State on Saturday, October 17th, at 4:00 p.m. at Pioneer Stadium.

The contest is the penultimate non-conference contest of the season, ending a stretch of five consecutive Empire 8 Conference games. That stretch began with victories over Utica College and St. John Fisher College, but since then, the Soaring Eagles have gone winless in three road games.

Last Time Out
The struggles away from Campus Field continued for the Purple and Gold on Monday at Houghton College, as the Highlanders handed the Soaring Eagles a 2-0 loss. EC goalkeeper Gabe Carmona '18 needed to make a career-high 16 saves, as she was peppered with 30 shots. In comparison, the Soaring Eagles managed five shot attempts. Amy Sullivan '18 nearly gave Elmira an early advantage in the second minute, but the Houghton keeper was able to get a glove on Sullivan's high shot from about 30 yards out.

By the Numbers
Following her career 16-save performance against the Highlanders, Carmona is now second in the Empire 8 in saves (71) and saves per game (7.89); Alfred University's Sammy Jo Shanahan leads the conference in both categories, but has played nearly twice as many minutes in goal as Carmona. The Sylmar, CA, native is on pace to surpass her save total from her rookie season Saturday against the Pioneers; she made 77 stops in eight starts last season. Carmona is also 12 saves away from tying teammate Amanda Banner '17 for 10th all-time in career saves with 160.

Series History
The Soaring Eagles and Pioneers have met once since Alfred State became a provisional NCAA Division III member in the 2013-14 academic school year. EC upended the Pioneers with a 3-0 victory at Campus Field on October 16, 2014. Banner made seven saves to earn her third of four clean sheets from last season. Kerri Wertman '17 set up Elmira's first goal in the 11th minute; her shot from approximately 25-yards out caromed off the crossbar and back to MacKenzie Donohue '15, who sent the rebound into the back of the net.

Scouting Alfred State
The Pioneers enter Saturday's competition with a 7-4-1 overall record, including a 5-1 mark at home. Alfred State, however, has dropped two straight road contests by identical 6-0 scores to William Smith on October 8th and Daemen College on October 13th. The last win for Alfred State was on October 3rd, when the Pioneers defeated host Bryant & Stratton College by a final of 3-2. The sophomore duo of Haley Russell and Haley Vosburg lead the Pioneers in scoring with seven and six goals, respectively. Fellow second-year student-athlete Allison Danielak has made 10 starts in goal on the season, and boasts 5-4-1 record. She has a goals-against average of 2.04 and a save percentage of .753.
