Live Coverage | Twitter: @ECSoaringEagles Elmira, NY -- The 2015 season comes to an end for the Elmira College women's soccer team tomorrow, as the Soaring Eagles host Alfred University at 12:00 p.m. at EC's Campus Field. Tomorrow's contest will also serve as Class of 2016 Recognition Day for Elmira's graduating seniors.
Last Time OutThe Soaring Eagles fought hard on the road in their last contest but fell short to Fredonia State, 5-2. Elmira dug themselves an early 4-0 hole, as the Purple and Gold surrendered four goals in the opening 13 minutes of the first half.
Amy Sullivan '18 began an EC rally with her first goal of the year, scored in the 18th minute.
Sara Kazerouni '18 continued EC's mini comeback with her third goal of the season in the 57th minute, which cut the Blue Devil lead to two. Unfortunately, Fredonia would tally once more before the final whistle, all the while keeping EC's offense at bay, as the Blue Devils claimed a three-goal victory on their home field.
Regular Season Home FinaleSince 2000, Elmira has gone 8-5-2 in regular season home finales. The Soaring Eagles are unbeaten in their last three regular season home finales, with a 2-0-1 record during that stretch. In EC's eight regular season home finale victories, the Soaring Eagles have outscored their opponents 26-to-8, despite four of those wins coming by just one goal.
20-Plus ShotsElmira produced its second-highest season shot total against Fredonia State (21). Although EC's shot high shot total did not result in a win, the Soaring Eagles have historically seen a great deal of success when taking 20 or more shots. Since 2010, Elmira is 12-1-1 when totaling 20 or more shots.
Series HistorySince 1985, Elmira and Alfred University have squared off 21 times, with the Soaring Eagles holding a lopsided advantage in those games with a 15-4-2 record. EC enters tomorrow's contest on a 10-game unbeaten streak against the Saxons, which includes four consecutive wins. During Elmira's 10-game stretch, the Purple and Gold recorded five shutout wins and have outscored Alfred 20-to-4. Alfred's last win in the series dates back to 2004, when the Elmira fell to the Saxons on the road, 1-0.
Scouting the SaxonsAlfred has had a tough year in 2015, going 1-14-2 with an 0-6-1 mark in conference play. Alfred's lone win of the season occurred back on September 6th, when the Saxons edged Wells College at Yunevich Stadium, 1-0. The Saxons have played in six one-goal games this year, going 1-5 in those contests. However, Alfred looks to be putting some of the pieces together in its last four games. Aside from a one-sided defeat against nationally ranked Stevens Institute of Technology, Alfred has played its opponents to a pair of one-goal losses and a double overtime tie, with all three results coming against teams with winning records. Offensively, Alfred is led by Emily Wright, Lauren Wyant, and Ally Hendel, who all share the team-lead in goals with two apiece.
Up NextTomorrow's contest marks the end of the 2015 season for Elmira and its six graduating members of the Class of 2016.
