Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's soccer team will travel to Rochester, NY, to face the Golden Flyers of Nazareth College in Empire 8 Conference action on Saturday, October 10th, at 12:00 p.m.
The Soaring Eagles will look to rebound from their conference loss to Stevens Institute of Technology on October 3rd. EC enters the matchup with a 2-1 E8 record, and a win against Nazareth (2-0-1 E8) will ensure that the Purple and Gold remain among the top-four teams in the conference standings.
Last Time OutThe EC women saw their two-game win streak snapped at the hands – or bills – of the Ducks in their 9-0 loss on October 3rd. Although the two teams were scoreless through the first 33 minutes, the Stevens offense went on the assault, scoring four times in a span of 4:22. Raba Nassif netted three of those four goals with a natural hat trick. Stevens led 5-0 at the intermission and scored four more in the second half. At Campus Field, EC's record is an even 2-2. In addition, all six goals scored by the EC offense in 2015 have come at home. On the other hand, Elmira is winless on the road in five chances. Series HistoryThe Golden Flyers hold a lead in the all-time series, 29-5, dating back to the 1984 season. Nazareth began the series with six straight wins. The Soaring Eagles scored their first win over Naz on October 6, 1990, by a final of 2-0 in Elmira. EC won three straight in the 1992, 1993 and 1994 seasons. The Soaring Eagles earned their last win in the "Battle of the Birds" on October 21, 2006, when the Purple and Gold downed the Golden Flyers, 2-1. Nazareth has won eight in a row since then, including a 3-0 shutout victory in 2014.
