Houghton, NY -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team (0-4, 0-1 E8) fell 11-9 to Houghton College (2-3, 1-0 E8) in an Empire 8 Conference matchup today. Moorea Spoljaric '16 matched a career-high six goals and added an assist while Lindsay Wargo '17 made 12 saves in the loss.

Spoljaric netted the game's first goal just 21 seconds into the game to give the EC women the quick 1-0 lead. The Highlanders answered with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead before Kylie Connell '17 received a pass from Spoljaric and scored to cut Houghton's lead to 3-2. The Highlanders answered right back just 21 seconds later to take a 4-2 lead, however, the Soaring Eagles answered with a goals from both Connell and Spoljaric to deadlock the game up at 4-4.

With 14:05 left in the first half, Houghton retook the lead before Elmira answered with two goals from Spoljaric to take a 6-5 lead. The Highlanders responded with back-to-back goals to take a 7-6 lead, however, Spoljaric would score yet another goal to tie the game up at 7-7. Houghton would score one more goal before the half to take an 8-7 lead heading into the locker rooms.

The Highlanders kicked off the second half with a goal 3:40 seconds in. 3:04 seconds later Kelsey Quail '17 would respond with a goal to trail 9-8. Houghton responded with two more goals to lead 11-8 with 9:40 seconds left in the game. Spoljaric would net another goal with 1:01 left, however, Elmira ran out of time to complete the comeback as EC fell, 11-9.

The Purple and Gold will compete next on March 24th when the EC women host Ithaca College in an Empire 8 Conference contest. The game is set to begin at 4:00 p.m.
