Women’s Lacrosse Falls in Overtime to Hartwick

Oneonta, NY -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team (0-6, 0-3 E8) fell 14-11 in overtime to Hartwick College (2-3, 1-1 E8) today. Ashton Hogan '15 led the Soaring Eagles with five goals and two assists while Moorea Spoljaric '16 scored four goals in today's action. Lindsay Wargo '17 also made five saves in the game today.

Hogan scored the game's first goal just 33 seconds into the first half. 1:16 later Hogan found Spoljaric who put the ball in the back of the net to give Elmira a quick 2-0 lead. Hogan scored her second goal of the game 3:16 into the half to put the Soaring Eagles up 3-0. Spoljaric then scored back-to-back goals to put EC up 5-0 with 23:30 left in the first half.

The Hawks answered back with four straight goals to trail the EC women, 4-5. Hogan and Kylie Connell '17 both scored goals for EC before halftime to give Elmira a 7-4 lead.

Spoljaric received a pass from Marisa Carr '18 and scored to put Elmira up 8-4 just 1:15 into the second half. Hartwick answered back with a goal of their own 5:58 later to trail EC 8-5, however, Spoljaric scored her fourth goal of the game 4:42 seconds later to put the EC women up 9-5. The Hawks responded with three goals to trail 9-8 with 13:31 left in the game.

Hogan scored her fifth goal of the game after receiving the ball from  Marissa Mongillo '15 to give EC a 10-8 lead with 9:23 left in the game. Hartwick then responded with two straight goals to tie the game up at 10-10 with 5:55 remaining in regulation play.

Mongillo found the back of the net to put EC back on top, 11-10, with only 1:32 left in regulation time. However, the Hawks found the equalizer just 23 second later to tie the game back up at 11 apiece. As time expired, and the game still tied at 11-11, the game went into overtime.

The Soaring Eagles could not contain Hartwick's momentum in the overtime period as the Hawks scored three overtime goals to defeat Elmira, 14-11.

The Purple and Gold will compete next tomorrow, March 28th when the EC women take on Empire 8 Conference opponent Stevens Institute of Technology at 12:00 p.m.
