Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College softball team (8-14, 1-12 E8) dropped a pair of Empire 8 Conference games to Stevens Tech (24-7-1, 10-4-0 E8) today. Julianne Heggie '16 led with two hits, including a triple, and EC's lone run of the day.
 
Game One: Stevens 9, Elmira 0
Neither team found the scoreboard after the first inning, however, the Ducks took an 8-0 lead after the third inning. Stevens took advantage of two homeruns in the third with a total of seven runs scored off the homeruns. The Ducks crossed the plate one more time in the fourth inning to take a 9-0 lead. Stevens' pitching proved too strong for the EC women as the Purple and Gold only recorded two hits the entire game.
 
Game Two: Stevens 9, Elmira 1
Stevens used the momentum of the first game into the second as the Ducks scored seven runs in the first inning to take an early 7-0 lead. The Ducks added one run to their lead in the third inning to lead 8-0. Julianne Heggie kicked off the bottom of the fourth inning with a triple in left center to put EC in scoring position. Heggie would end up scoring off a failed picked off attempt to give Elmira their first run of the day. In the sixth inning, Stevens hit a homerun to take a 9-1 lead and after six innings, the Ducks would claim the 9-1 win.
 
The Purple and Gold will compete next on April 28th when the Soaring Eagles travel to St. Lawrence for the EC women's season finale.
