Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College women's soccer team was defeated by Buffalo State, 3-0, in a non-conference match to open the 2015 season on Tuesday afternoon at Coyer Field in Buffalo, NY.
The Soaring Eagles limited the Bengals to a single goal in the first half although the home club fired 13 of its 20 shots in the opening stanza. Starting goalkeeper
Gabe Carmona '18 stood her ground early; she saved the first three shots on goal in the first 10-plus minutes.
Buffalo State senior Meghan Allen broke the stalemate with shot off of a rebound inside the box in the 12th minute to give the Bengals the early 1-0 advantage.
Maddie Miller '17 nearly tied the game in the 23rd minute but her shot was saved by Buffalo State's Jessica McCarey.
Carmona and the EC defense held Buffalo State scoreless for the next 52:44, with the EC goalie making four more saves in that span. However, Bengals junior Melissa Smith pushed in a header off of a cross from fellow junior Kristin Seiferth in the 65th minute to extend the lead to two.
Allen added her second goal on one-timer in the box in the 82nd minute to reach the final tally.

- Bengals senior forward Meghan Allen scored twice. She also netted two goals in her 2014 debut, a 4-1 win over SUNY Brockport.
- EC's shots came from Niki Lemper '17, Sara Kazerouni '18, and Maddie Miller '17. Miller put Elmira's only shot on goal in the 23rd minute.
- Second-year goalie Gabe Carmona '18 made seven saves, all in the first half. Carmona took the loss, falling to 0-1 on the season.
- Jessica McCarey earned the win for Buffalo State, improving to 1-0.
News and Notes- The loss marks the first for the EC in a season-opener since 2012.
- The victory is Buffalo State's fifth straight against the Soaring Eagles dating back to 2008.
