Elmira, NY -- The second-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team looks to extend its 11-game win streak tonight, as the Soaring Eagles welcome No. 3/6 Amherst College to the Murray Athletic Center Ice Arena for a Top-10 showdown at 7:00 p.m.

Last Time Out
The second-ranked Soaring Eagles continued their winning ways last weekend with a 2-1 victory over ninth-ranked Norwich University. With the win, Elmira extends its win streak to 11 games. After a scoreless first period, Elmira's Louisa Lippiatt Durnell '18 broke the stalemate with a power-play goal just 2:27 into the second period. Rookie forward Maddy Jerolman '19 added to the lead just about 13 minutes later with her third goal of the season. Jerolman's tally would eventually go down as the game-winner, her second game-winning goal against a Top-10 team this season. Kelcey Crawford '18 made 21 saves, including a 10-save effort in the third period to preserve the win.

EC vs. the Nation's Best
Elmira has faced five nationally-ranked teams this season and has posted a 4-1-0 record during those meetings. With another nationally-ranked game on the horizon, it is important to see how Elmira has fared in its previous five matchups against the nation's top teams. Shots have been nearly identical, with opponents outshooting EC by just one, 109-to-108. However, a key stat during these five games has been Elmira's specials teams. The Soaring Eagles successfully scored on 27.8 percent of its power-play chances (5-for-18), but the real eye-opening stat during this time has been Elmira's PK unit. EC's penalty killers have denied their nationally-ranked opponents 92.3 percent of the time, holding teams to just two goals on 26 power-play opportunities. Additionally, the third period of games against these teams has been particularly good for the Soaring Eagles, who have outscored their opponents 6-to-1 in the final stanza.

Scouting Amherst
The Purple and White opened the 2015-16 season with eight straight wins, before playing eighth-ranked Middlebury College to a pair of ties over the weekend, bringing their overall record to 8-0-2. Amherst has shown its ability to play well on the road, as five of its eight wins have occurred away from its home rink. The unbeaten Lord Jeffs have proved to be one of the country's top offensive teams, as they enter tonight's contest with the nation's fifth-highest scoring offense at 3.70 goals per game. Alex Toupal and Erin Martin have spearheaded the team's offensive efforts with 13 and 12 points, respectively. Toupal's 1.11 goals per game average ranks fourth in the country, while Martin's 0.90 average is eighth.

Series History
Elmira and Amherst have faced each other 12 times over the years, with the Soaring Eagles holding a slight 7-5 lead in the all-time series. EC has won three straight against Amherst, outscoring the Lord Jeffs 12-to-4 during that time. Amherst's last win dates back to the 2010-11 season, when the Purple and White scored a 1-0 win.
