Women's Soccer to Host Fredonia in Non-Conference Competition

ELMIRA, NY -- Elmira College women's soccer team takes on Fredonia State at home in non-conference action on Tuesday, October 4th, on Campus Field at 4:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: The Soaring Eagles lost a closely contested match against Empire 8 Conference rival, Alfred University, 3-2. The Purple and Gold had to fight back twice to keep the contest tied after falling behind by one goal on two occasions. Sara Kazerouni '18 scored the first goal for the Purple and Gold in the 33rd minute to knot the game up at 1-1. Freshman Maddie Farrell '20 tied the match at 2-2 with her first goal of her career in the 51st minute. Ultimately it would not be enough, as the Saxons would score the game-winning goal in the 62nd minute.

STRONG JUNIORS: With the goal against Alfred, Kazerouni joined Jordyn Rousselle '18 as the leading scorers for the Purple and Gold, with seven points on three goals and one assist on the season. The Purple and Gold will need their veteran leadership to help boost the team for the rest of the season. Last season, EC went a perfect 4-0 in games that Rousselle scored in, and in the last two seasons, the Soaring Eagles have gone 3-2 in games that Kazerouni recorded a goal.

FIRST POINTS OF CAREERS: First-year Soaring Eagle Farrell netted her first  goal of the season in the 51st minute in the game against Alfred, it is also her first points while wearing the purple and gold. Kerri Clark '18 posted her first point of her career with an assist on Farell's goal, in her 22nd appearance as a Soaring Eagle. It would help EC out dramatically if they received extra production out of their younger players.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS: Fredonia enters tomorrow's contest with an overall record of 3-8, and a road record of 0-6. The Blue Devils' last match was a 3-0 loss to Buffalo State, in which Fredonia was dominated, being outshot 22-3 by the Bengals. Fredonia's lone win in its last seven games was against Empire 8 Conference foe St. John Fisher College. Two of Fredonia's victory this year came in 1-0 matches at the Fredonia Blue Devil/Clarion Hotel Classic. The Blue Devils are led by sophomore goalie Kendall Owczarzak, who sits atop the SUNYAC in saves with 107 saves so far this season. Maria Gordon and Kaitlin Huyler pace the team offensively, with two goals each.

SERIES HISTORY: The Soaring Eagles have not fared well in the all-time series against The Blue Devils, owning a record of 1-17-1. Last year's meeting was a 5-2 loss on the road. The lone win in the series for EC was a 1-0 victory in September of 2004, at the friendly confines of Campus Field.

UP NEXT: The Soaring Eagles will stay in Elmira to face Nazareth College in Empire 8 action on Saturday, October 8th, at Campus Field. The match is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
