Women's Ice Hockey Hosts Chatham in Home-Opening Weekend

Complete Game Notes

ELMIRA, N.Y. --
The third-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team will play in its home-opening games this weekend, starting tonight with a 7:00 p.m. ECAC West Conference showdown with Chatham University at the Murray Athletic Center. Elmira continues its season series with the Cougars the following afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. league bout.

WEEKEND OVERVIEW
  • After an opening-weekend sweep of Neumann University, the Soaring Eagles enter this weekend's contests with an unblemished 2-0-0 record and an identical mark in ECAC West Conference play.
  • Elmira will honor the legacy of the late great Laura Hurd '05 at Friday night's game with a ceremonial pre-game puck drop, which will be performed by Laura's mother Jennifer Hurd and brother Steven Hurd.
  • Friday night's bout with the Cougars is the first meeting at the Murray Athletic Center between the two teams since the 2014-15 season.
  • Elmira has never lost to Chatham and own a 28-0-0 all-time series record against the Cougars.
  • Chatham is one of four ECAC West Conference teams the Soaring Eagles have never suffered a defeat against (Chatham, Cortland, Neumann & Oswego).

DURNELL'S BIG NIGHT
  • Junior Louisa Lippiatt Durnell was held scoreless in Elmira's season opener last Friday, but responded the following evening with a career-high five-point performance.
  • Lippiatt Durnell's five points came on two goals, including on power-play tally, and three assists.
  • The two-goal and three-assist totals both matched her previous career best.
  • She had a hand in all four of Elmira's power-play goals (1g, 3a) and was also credited with one point in five of EC's first six goals.
  • Lippiatt Durnell's five points are the most recorded by an Elmira skater since former AHCA All-American Ashley Ryan '15 logged five in a December 7, 2014, matchup against SUNY Potsdam.
  • Her first goal came just 52 seconds into regulation - EC's fastest goal since Maddy Jerolman scored in 14 seconds against Middlebury in last year's NCAA Semifinals.

CHATHAM AT A GLANCE
  • The Cougars enter this weekend's conference games with a 0-2-0 overall record with an identical mark in ECAC West Conference games.
  • Chatham's first four games of the year will take place on the road and are all against ECAC West opposition (Oswego & Elmira).
  • Both of Chatham's losses came at the hands of Oswego State; the Lakers picked up a 2-1 and a 7-0 victory on their home ice.
  • Senior Jenny Jones scored Chatham's lone goal of the season, while McKenzie Haskins has the team's only assist.
  • Sydney Isbell got the start in both games against the Lakers and enters Friday with a 4.86 goals-against average and an .864 save percentage.
