Women's Basketball Heads South for Guilford College Classic

ELMIRA, N.Y. --
The Elmira College women's basketball team will travel south to Greensboro, North Carolina, for the Guilford College Classic on Saturday, November 19th, and Sunday, November 20th. The Soaring Eagles battle Bridgewater College at 12:00 p.m on Saturday, before squaring off against the Quakers of Guilford on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Weekend Overview
  • The Soaring Eagles will trek to Greensboro, North Carolina, for this weekend's tournament.
  • According to Google Maps, Greensboro is 550 miles south of Elmira. The fastest route by bus is approximately 9 hours and 10 minutes.
  • EC will play Virginia-based Bridgewater College in a neutral site game to open the tournament at noon on Saturday.
  • On Sunday, the host Quakers will take on Elmira at 2:00 p.m.
  • All of the games will be played inside Guilford's Ragan-Brown Field House.

Cleary Continues to Score Big
  • Danielle Cleary opened the 2016-17 season with a game-high 26 points against Hilbert on November 15th.
  • It marked the 16th game of her EC career with 20-or-more points.
  • The 26 points are the most Cleary has scored in a game since netting 29 on December 1, 2015, against Clarkson.
  • Her nine made field goals are tied for her second-highest single-game total.
  • In 2015-16, Cleary began the year with 20-plus points in six of the first eight games.

Getting to the Line
  • Elmira held a significant advantage in the number of free-throw attempts in the opener at Hilbert, 32-to-10.
  • EC converted 75.0-percent of its attempts from the line and finished 12-for-16 in each half.
  • Senior captain Marissa Silverman paced Elmira with a perfect 6-for-6 showing from the charity stripe.
  • Cleary, who finished with the second-most makes in a season in program history with 116 free throws as a sophomore, made 5-of-8 attempts, bringing her career total to 230.
  • Cleary only needs three more free throws to surpass Maria Thannhauser '14 (232) for fourth-place all-time.

Bridgewater at a Glance        
  • The Eagles opened the 2016-17 season with a 67-47 loss to No. 15 Christopher Newport University.
  • Jessica Lam paced Bridgewater with 11 points, nine of which came from the foul line.
  • Nina Novosel finished second on the team with nine points off of the bench.
  • Bridgewater finished the 2015-16 campaign with a 14-12 record and advanced to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Quarterfinals.
  • Lam was the team's leading scorer a year ago with 15.6 points per game, fifth-most in the ODAC, en route to a Third-Team All-Conference selection.

Guilford at a Glance            
  • Guilford was voted No. 1 in the ODAC Preseason Coaches' Poll after advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
  • The Quakers returned All-ODAC First-Team selection Anais Weatherly and Third-Teamer Lauren Ramsey, who led the team with 15.0 and 11.1 points per game, respectively.
  • Weatherly was also named a Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Honorable Mention All-American last season.
  • In the season-opening win over Greensboro College, Weatherly finished a steal shy of a triple-double with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and nine takeaways.
  • With five points in the Guilford College Classic opener against MacMurray College, Weatherly will surpass 1,000 career points.
