Men's Ice Hockey

Men's Ice Hockey Battles SUNY Potsdam in Tuesday Night Clash

Complete Game Notes

ELMIRA, N.Y. --
The Elmira College men's ice hockey team travels on short rest to take on the Bears of SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday, November 22nd, at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday night's contest will serve as the 52nd all-time meeting between the two programs, as both teams look to snap a current four-game skid.

TUESDAY OVERVIEW
  • Elmira will look to put an end to a four-game skid on Tuesday night, as the Soaring Eagles travel to face the Bears of SUNY Potsdam.
  • The Soaring Eagles dropped a pair of ECAC West Conference games to No. 7/8 nationally-ranked Utica and Nazareth.
  • Tuesday's bout marks the seventh road game out of Elmira's first nine contests of the year. The Soaring Eagles will play four consecutive home games following the matchup with the Bears.
  • Tuesday night's trip to the Maxcy Ice Arena will be Elmira's first since the 2014-15 season. Elmira scored three third-period goals to secure a 5-2 victory in that matchup.
  • Potsdam will also be looking to put an end to its four-game losing streak. All four losses have come inside SUNYAC play, including the team's most recent setback, a 3-2 home loss to SUNY Cortland.
  • Tuesday's contest will be Potsdam's third consecutive game at the Maxcy Ice Arena. The three-game homestand is Potsdam's longest stretch of home contests this season.
  • The Bears are 2-2-1 on their home ice this season.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Elmira and Potsdam will meet for a third consecutive season, after taking a four-year break from the rivalry.
  • The two teams met at least once a season for 34 consecutive years, beginning with the first matchup in the all-time series during the 1976-77 season.
  • The Soaring Eagles are 13-1-1 in the last 15 meetings and are 3-0-0 against the Bears under head coach Aaron Saul '98.
  • Of Elmira's eight all-time losses to the Bears, three have taken place on the road.
  • Elmira head coach, Saul, and assistant coach Tim Crowley both served on the Potsdam coaching staff earlier in their coaching careers.
  • Saul was the Potsdam bench boss for two seasons from 2007-09. He went 19-25-9 during his time and collected SUNYAC Coach of the Year honors in 2008.
  • Crowley served as an assistant for three seasons from 2009-12.
  • Elmira has scored on average 6.0 goals per game in the 51 all-time meetings.
  • Potsdam has scored on average 2.84 goals per game during the all-time series.

POTSDAM AT A GLANCE
  • Potsdam opened the year without taking a loss in its first four games (2-0-2), but has dropped four straight entering Tuesday's game.
  • Potsdam's struggles this year coincide with the opening of league play, as the Bears are 1-4-1 inside the SUNYAC.
  • Freshman Bryce Ferrell leads the Bears with eight points on two goals and a team-leading six assists.
  • Junior forward Dylan Vander Esch has been Potsdam's most consistent goal scorer, owning a team-best four tallies on the year. His four goals have been scored in three games, two of which have resulted in Potsdam wins.
  • Vander Esch has done most of his damage on the power play, scoring thrice with the extra skater.
  • Brendan McMenimen and Nate Skidmore have essentially split time at the goaltender position, with McMenimen holding a slight edge in minutes played at 248:40.
  • Both McMenimen and Skidmore own identical 1-2-1 records on the year, although McMenimen sports a better goals-against average (2.90) and save percentage (92.8%).
