Women's Basketball Travels to Virginia to Challenge Non-Conference Foe Shenandoah

ELMIRA, N.Y. --
The Elmira College women's basketball team will travel to Shingleton Gymnasium in Winchester, Virginia, to face non-conference opponent Shenandoah University on Tuesday, November 22nd. The game is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m.

Heaton Makes All-Tournament Team                               
  • Lindsey Heaton earned Guilford College Classic All-Tournament Team honors for her performance over the weekend.
  • The sophomore guard racked up 26 points, six rebounds and five assists in the two games of the Guilford College Classic. 
  • Heaton's 17 points in the game against Bridgewater are the second-most that she has scored in a single game. 
  • Her career-high 19 points came in a matchup against University of Mount Union, in the second game of the 2015-16 season. 
  • Both of Heaton's top two point performances came in the second game of the past two seasons. 
  • Her six made field goals are her second-highest single-game total.

Cleary Continues to Impress                           
  • In the first two games of the season Danielle Cleary scored a combined 47 points.
  • Her 47 points in the first two games of this season are the most since Marcia Coakley '09 scored 56 to start the 2006-07 season. 
  • Cleary leads the Soaring Eagles in points (55), minutes (118), steals (7) and blocks (2). 
  • The junior guard is the main source of offense for the Purple and Gold as she averages 19.3 shots per game. 
  • With two 20-point games already this season, Cleary now has 17 in her career. 
  • Cleary now has 235 career free-throws and has passed Maria Thannhauser '14 (232) for fourth-place all-time.
  • She ranks fourth in the Empire 8 Conference with 18.3 points per game. 

Rebounding Help                                                                     
  • Forward Emily Breheny had a strong performance over the weekend, with two points and 5.5 rebounds per game. 
  • Breheny now leads the team in rebounds with 5.7 rebounds per game on the season. 
  • This production will be important as the season continues, as she is the tallest player on the roster at 6-feet tall.
  • Not to be left out, Rachel Vespucci grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in the matchup against the Quakers. 
  • The Purple and Gold will look for this productivity to continue, as the sophomore forward is playing almost double the amount of minutes in her second season. 

Shenandoah at a Glance                    
  • The Hornets have started the 2016-17 season with a 2-1 overall record. 
  • Shenandoah's most recent matchup was a 74-39 loss to Middlebury College in the Rose City Tip-Off Classic on Sunday, November 20th. 
  • The Hornets own victories over non-conference opponents Goucher College and Drew University.
  • As a team the Hornets only made 34.1-percent of their field goal attempts against the Panthers. 
  • Last season, Shenandoah struggled on its way to a 7-19 overall record. 
  • Seniors Mary Severin (10.7 PPG) and Erin French (10.7 PPG) pace the Hornets' offense. 
  • Freshman guard McKenzie Mathis has also been an integral part of the Shenandoah offense, as she leads the team in assists per game (3.7).
  • French's 8.3 boards per game also leads the team.
