Complete Game Notes

ELMIRA, N.Y. --
The second-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team faces its toughest test of the young season this weekend, as the Soaring Eagles welcome sixth-ranked Norwich University to the Murray Athletic Center for a non-league bout on Saturday, December 3rd, at 3:00 p.m.

WEEKEND OVERVIEW
  • After a two-week break, the Elmira women return to the ice at the Murray Athletic Center for a crucial top-10 showdown with Norwich University.
  • Elmira peaked at No. 1 in the USCHO national poll, but the most recent ranking release dropped the Soaring Eagles down a spot after an idle week of competition.
  • Saturday's contest is not only Elmira's first against a nationally-ranked program, it is also EC's first non-conference game of the season.
  • Elmira heads into Saturday's bout having won the previous four meetings against the Cadets and has never suffered a defeat on its home ice at the MAC (5-0-0).
  • The Cadets began the 2016-17 campaign as the nation's eighth-ranked team, but has since moved into the No. 6 spot thanks to a 6-1-0 overall record. Norwich's lone loss of the season is against top-ranked Plattsburgh State.
  • Excluding Norwich's 3-1 loss to Plattsburgh, the Cadets have outscored their opponents, 36-6 (5.0 goals per game).
  • Four of Norwich's wins have come in the form of shutouts, including its two most recent victories over Saint Michaels and Nichols. The Cadets won both meetings by identical 8-0 scores.

GRANATO FINDS SCORING TOUCH
  • Sophomore forward Katie Granato has been on a scoring tear as of late.
  • Granato leads Elmira with six goals on the season; five of those tallies have come in EC's last three games.
  • Half of her goals have been scored with the extra skater, as she leads Elmira with three power-play goals.
  • Granato is averaging 1.00 goals per game, a mark that is tops in the ECAC West Conference and tied for fourth in the country.
  • She has scored in three consecutive games entering Saturday's contest and has tallied in four of Elmira's last five games.
  • Granato has a pair of two-goal games to her name thus far into the season, one coming against Chatham and the other against Buffalo State.

ELMIRA VS. NORWICH
  • Saturday's contest with the Cadets will be the 15th all-time meeting between the two programs.
  • Elmira enters the matchup having topped the Cadets in four straight games. EC's most recent win was a 2-1 victory at the MAC last season.
  • The four-game win streak is the longest by either team in the nine-year history of the rivalry.
  • Norwich's last win in the series dates back to the 2013-14 NCAA Quarterfinals, when the Cadets edged the Soaring Eagles in overtime at the Kreitzberg Arena, 2-1.
  • Elmira boasts a perfect record against Norwich at the Murray Athletic Center, winning all five home contests (5-0-0).
  • Elmira has scored 45 goals in the 14 meetings for a per game average of 3.21, while the Cadets have logged 28 tallies for a 2.00 goals per game average.
  • The two teams have met at least once a year each season since 2007-08.

NORWICH AT A GLANCE
  • The Cadets enter Saturday's top-six showdown with a 6-1-0 overall record and an unblemished 6-0-0 mark in NEHC play.
  • Norwich's lone defeat of the season came in the form of a 3-1 setback to three-time defending national champion, and top-ranked, Plattsburgh State on the road.
  • The Cadets have responded from the loss to the Cardinals with a pair of decisive 8-0 victories over Saint Michael's and Nichols.
  • Junior blueliner Kim Tiberi is a player to watch. She leads the Cadets with 11 points on one goal and team-leading 10 assists.
  • Tiberi is averaging 1.43 assists per game, a mark that ranks third in the country. Also, she is one of six skaters in the nation with double-digit assists.
  • Tiberi is also averaging 1.57 points per contest, which is the highest per-game average in the country by a defenseman.
  • Rookie skaters Linnéa Odbratt, Alyssa Hulst and Amanda Conway all sit inside the top 10 in the country in rookie scoring.
  • Odbratt paces the pack with a 1.29 point per game average, good enough for eighth in the nation. Odbratt and Conway are tied for second on the team in goals (5).
