A tie in either game this weekend will secure the Soaring Eagles a first-round bye in the upcoming ECAC West Tournament.
Last Time OutThe Elmira women continued their impressive sprint to the finish of the regular season slate with pair of dominating performances against William Smith College over the weekend. The Soaring Eagles celebrated Class of 2016 Recognition Day in style on Saturday, besting the Herons 5-2 in Elmira's regular season home finale. Seniors

Olivia Nystrom '16 each netted a goal, while
Maddie Evangelous '19 had a big game with two goals and an assist. EC followed Saturday up with an even more dominant performance at The Cooler in the backhalf of the home-and-home series. Elmira routed William Smith 7-1 behind dominant offense, which had 12 players record at least one point. Evangelous continued her huge weekend with a three-point effort on two power-play goals and an assist.
Katie Granato '19 also tallied three points on a goal and two assists.
Evangelous Nets Weekly AwardsRookie forward
Maddie Evangelous '19 has quitely been having an impressive first season. Her excellent skating pace and her strong two-way play has helped her solidify a place in EC's Top-9. She broke out in a big way this past weekend, posting three-point efforts in both victories over William Smith. Evangelous finished the weekend with four goals and two assists, earning ECAC West Player of the Week on Monday. The award was her second weekly accolade of the season, as she was named the conference's top rookie back in November. She was named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week on Wednesday.
Offense HummingThe Elmira offense has taken things to another level over the last two weekends. The Soaring Eagles racked up 12 goals in the two games against William Smith over the weekend. The team has averaged 5.0 goals over its last four, over a full goal more than what the Soaring Eagles have averaged on the year. EC currently ranks ninth in scoring offense in the country at 3.78 goals per game. Balanced scoring has been the hallmark of the 2015-16 Soaring Eagles, as 11 players have recorded 11-plus points so far this season. That aspect was on full display on Sunday, as 12 players found their way on to the score sheet.
Jerolman Jumping Up the ChartsMaddy Jerolman '19 has been a force this season as one of Elmira's most consistent scoring forwards. She had a huge weekend, posting a pair of two-point efforts against the Herons. On Saturday, she chipped in two primary assists on Elmira's first two goals to take early control of the game. On Sunday, she netted a goal and added an assist in the 7-1 triumph. She currently ranks fourth on the team in scoring with a 7g-9a-16pts line. Jerolman is tied for 17th in the country and is fourth in the ECAC West in freshmen scoring.
Chivers Charging Down the StretchFreshman blue-liner
Kristin Chivers '19 continues to rank among the nation's best in terms of both rookie and defenseman scoring. She pushed her point total on the year to 23, with a goal in both games over the weekend. The Antioch, IL, native sits in sixth nationally among freshmen in point scoring, while her 23 points are tied for third among all defenders in the country. She has been a picture of consistency down the stretch, recording at least one point in 10 of her last 12 games.
All-Time SeriesThe series between Elmira and Oswego State dates back to the 2006-07 season. It has been dominated by the Soaring Eagles, as EC holds an 18-0-1 all-time record over the Lakers. Elmira completely shut down Oswego State last season, sweeping the final series of the 2014-15 regular season with 4-0 and 6-0 victories.
Scouting Oswego StateThe Lakers have had somewhat of a down year, after racking up a 36-16-2 record over the previous two seasons. Oswego State got off to a middling 2-2-2 start, but caught a spark towards the end of November, winning five straight contests, while only giving up two goals over the stretch. The team is only 4-6-2 since the start of 2016, which included a five-game slide against ECAC West foes in Plattsburgh State, Buffalo State, and William Smith. However, the Lakers rebounded this past weekend with a 1-0-1 showing against non-conference foe Williams College. Goal scoring has been tough to come by for Oswego State this season, as the team has mustered just 2.26 goals per game. Second-year forward Olivia Ellis leads the team in scoring with a 5g-13a-18pts line on the year. The goalie tandem of the Lakers has been the strength of the squad. Senior netminder Tori Trovato has seen more time of the duo, entering the weekend with a solid 2.02 goals-against average and .926 save percentage in 15 starts. Second-year goalie Mariah Madrigal has been even stronger with a 1.87 goals-against average and .932 save percentage in nine appearances.
Looking AheadThe Soaring Eagles look ahead to the ECAC West Tournament with potential matchups to be determined based on league results this weekend. The quarterfinal round is set to be played on Saturday, February 27
th, while the semifinal and final rounds coming the following weekend.
