Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Contest to Rochester 13-5

Score: University of Rochester 13, Elmira College 5
Records: Rochester (2-2), Elmira (0-2)
Location: Rochester, NY - Edwin Fauver Stadium

Rochester, NY -- The Elmira College women's lacrosse team was defeated 13-5 on the road by the University of Rochester at Edwin Fauver Stadium Tuesday afternoon.

The Yellowjackets opened the game on a 4-0 run and led 6-1 at the half. The only first-half goal from the Soaring Eagles was scored by Marisa Carr '18, her first of the young season.

With a 10-goal lead in the second half, the Yellowjackets subbed out starting goaltender Maire Prosak in favor of Katherine Bushway. The Soaring Eagles made quick work of the relief netminder, as Hayley Baker '19 found the back of the net just 37 seconds after the substitution. EC scored three unanswered goals on Bushway in a span of 2:32, the latter a free position goal from Moorea Spoljaric '16, trimming the deficit to 12-5. Prosak, however, quickly returned to goal to thwart any comeback attempts.

Turning Point
The Yellowjackets held a significant advantage in time of possession, which prevented the EC offense from getting into a rhythm. Not only did Rochester win 14-of-20 draw controls, it limited the Soaring Eagles to a 47.4 clear percentage (9-for-19), simply not allowing Elmira to get the ball into the sticks of attackers Baker and Spoljaric in the offensive zone.

  • Spoljaric scored both of her goals off of free position shots.
  • Spoljaric filled out the stat sheet with a game-high three caused turnovers, three ground balls and two draw controls.

  • Jamie Wallisch paced the Yellowjackets with six goals.
