Empire 8 Release
ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Fourth-year middle blocker
Alicia Day '17 of the Elmira College women's volleyball team was named the Empire 8 Conference Women's Volleyball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday.
Day's performance in the middle of the floor was instrumental, as she helped guide the Soaring Eagles to a four-set victory over visiting Utica College in the nightcap of Saturday's conference tri-match at Speidel Gymnasium. The 6-foot, 2-inch senior recorded a career-high 13 kills without committing an error against the Pioneers. Her resulting .684 attack percentage also represents a career high in matches with at least 10 attempts.
The Mount Laurel, New Jersey, native produced a combined 19 kills with only one error in conference matches against Ithaca College, St. John Fisher College, and Utica last week, equaling an outstanding .529 attack percentage. Day also picked up four total blocks, including one solo block in each E8 matchup.
On the season, Day is third on the team with 35 kills and 1.67 kills per set. Her .367 hitting percentage ranks second in the Empire 8 among players with at least three attack attempts per set.
The EC women's volleyball team will return to action on Tuesday, September 27th, with a non-conference matchup with SUNY-Delhi in Delhi, New York, at 6:00 p.m.
