No. 5 Women’s Ice Hockey Set for Tuesday Night Showdown with Williams

ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The fifth-ranked Elmira College women's ice hockey team will be searching for its 10th win of the season tonight, as the Soaring Eagles travel to face the Ephs of Williams College in non-league play.  Tonight's contest is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Williams' Lansing Chapman Rink.

LAST TIME OUT: Elmira swept SUNY Cortland in its most recent ECAC West series, outscoring the Red Dragons 10-1 in the process. The Soaring Eagles scored a 5-1 win on the road last Friday night, before rolling past Cortland at the Murray Athletic Center the following afternoon by a 5-0 final score. Eight skaters finished with two or more points over the weekend, led by sophomore linemates Maddy Jerolman '19 and Maddie Evangelous '19, both of whom finished with four points apiece. Jerolman stung the Red Dragons for three goals, two in Friday's win and another in Saturday's contest, while also chipping in one assist. Evangelous, on the other hand, amassed her four points by dishing out three assists and scoring once. The two wins extended EC's consecutive win streak against Cortland to 34 games.

JEROLMAN'S MULTI-POINT EFFORT: Jerolman finished with two points in both weekend bouts against Cortland, giving the second-year forward six multi-point performances during the 2016-17 season. Jerolman has logged 12 multi-point games throughout her EC career; Elmira is 11-1-0 in those 12 contests.

EVANGELOUS FINDS RHYTHM: Evangelous has had a solid year with exceptional performances in recent games. The sophomore winger has produced at least one point in nine of Elmira's 13 games thus far for a total of 15 points on five goals and 10 helpers. Eight of her 15 points have come in Elmira's last six games (4g, 4a), which includes two of her season's five multi-point efforts.

POWER PLAY BACK ON TRACK: Up until Friday night's power-play score by Jerolman late in the third period, Elmira had struggled on the power play, coming up empty on 25 chances. However, Jerolman's extra-skater tally, along with a power-play goal from Louisa Lippiatt Durnell '18 the following afternoon, has helped EC's success rate on the power play increase to 21.1-percent (12th in the country). Additionally, Elmira improved to 6-0-0 this season when scoring on the power play.

SCOUTING WILLIAMS: The Ephs of Williams College head into tonight's bout with an 8-5-0 overall record and a 6-2-0 mark in NESCAC contests. After opening the year with just one win in its first four games, Williams has responded nicely by going 7-2-0 in its last nine games. However, the Ephs have struggled against non-conference opposition, which includes a 0-3 record against teams from the ECAC West (Oswego State and Buffalo State). Senior Sara Lehman leads the Williams offense with 12 points on four assists and a team-leading eight tallys. Abby Brustad is not far behind with nine points on three goals and a team-high six assists. Rookie Marissa Anderson has seen the most time between the pipes this season with eight games played and 430:08 of playing time. She sports a 5-2-0 record, a 1.95 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage.

LOOKING AHEAD: Elmira will be back in action this weekend for a home-and-home series with the Herons of William Smith College. EC hosts William Smith at the Murray Athletic Center on Friday, January 20th, at 7:00 p.m., before heading to Geneva, New York, to face the Herons in a 4:00 p.m. league matchup.
