ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Elmira College women's soccer fell in Empire 8 Conference action this afternoon to The Sage Colleges, 4-0. Prior to today's contest, Elmira honored its seven graduating members of the Class of 2018:
Kerri Clark '18,
Kate DeLellis '18,
Rachel Grampp '18,
Sara Kazerouni '18,
Lindsay Proulx '18,
Jordyn Rousselle '18 and
Amy Sullivan '18.
Sage dictated today's pace of play with a vicious high-pressure attack, one that helped the Gators produce a 22-to-6 advantage in shots, as well as a 10-to-3 lead in shots on goal. Corner kick chances finished in favor of the Gators as well, 5-2.
It only took 3:42 for Sage's Samantha Trimblett to find the back of the net, as she buried a long shot from outside the 18-yard box for the game-opening score. Reagan Fesette was credited with an assist on the goal, which held up through the end of the first half thanks to a strong defensive effort by the Soaring Eagles.
The second half proved to be much of the same, as Sage added a trio of goals to push today's contest out of reach. Trimblett added to her goal total with a tally in the 49th minute. Meagan Villa and Dominique Puglisi rounded out Sage's score with goals in the 78th and 86th minutes, respectively. Angelina Miller picked up an assist on Villa's goal at the 77:34 mark.
EC's best scoring chance came in the 65th minute, when a nicely played through ball put
Jordyn Rousselle '18 inside the 18-yard box, one-on-one with Sage's starting netminder Emma Augustine. Rousselle tried to squeeze the shot through near-post, but Augustine smothered the attempt to keep EC off the scoreboard and hand the Gators a 4-0 victory.
Elmira employed the services of two goalkeepers this afternoon, as
Ali DeSalvatore '20 got the start and
Meghan Ray '19 came in for relief duty. DeSalvatore made two saves in 39:29 of work, while Ray made four stops in the final 50:31 of regulation.
