Complete Game Notes
ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's basketball team will wrap up play at Speidel Gymnasium in the 2016-17 home finale on Tuesday, February 14th, at 6:00 p.m. against Alfred University. The Soaring Eagles have their eyes set on a 10th consecutive victory over the Saxons, which would allow EC to sweep the two-game series from its Empire 8 Conference foe for the fifth straight season.
MILESTONES TO WATCH
- Several Soaring Eagles are on the verge of setting career milestones or climbing further up Elmira's all-time top-10 leaderboards as the 2016-17 seasons nears and ending.
- Earlier this season, Danielle Cleary '18 became the sixth member of the prestigious 1,000-point club. She currently ranks fifth all-time with 1,108 points, just 33 shy of tying Kourtney Troutman '08 for fourth.
- Cleary ranks third in program history with 287 career makes from the free throw line. With 13 more foul shots, she'll become one of just three Soaring Eagles to reach 300 career free throws.
- Second-year point guard Lindsey Heaton '19 is already having a historical season with a career-high 98 assists, tied for seventh-most in a single season.Â
- With two more, she'll become one of just seven players to dish out 100 assists in a season, and with seven more dimes, she'll move into 10th-place all-time in career assists, passing Alysha Giarra '10 (173).
- Rachel Vespucci '19 has been a rebounding machine all season long, as evidenced by her 11 double-doubles, the most by a Soaring Eagle since former Empire 8 Player of the Year, Jennifer Parker '06, matched the feat in 2003-04.
- With 237 rebounds already collected this season, Vespucci needs nine more to tie Katy Knox '85 for the seventh-most in a single-season in team history.
- If Vespucci ties or surpasses Knox's mark, she'll be the first player to crack Elmira's top-seven single-season rebounding leaders since the 1985-86 season, when Sheila Aber '87 reached fourth place (264).
CONFERENCE LEADERS
- Two Soaring Eagles enter Tuesday night's matchup with Alfred sitting atop a pair of Empire 8 Conference leaderboards.
- Heaton owns a league-best assist average of 4.5 per game, 0.5 more than the next closest player.
- Vespucci is the only player in the conference who is averaging at least a double-double with 11.5 points and an E8-leading 10.8 boards per game.
ALFRED AT A GLANCE
- After starting the season 2-2, the Saxons suffered through an 18-game losing streak, which lasted from November 26th to February 10th.
- AU's skid came to an end last time out, as Alfred defeated Utica at home on February 11th, by a 69-57 final.
- That victory brought Alfred's record to 3-20 overall and just 1-13 inside Empire 8 Conference play, this after winning just two games last season.
- The Saxons are winless on the road this season (0-10).
- Alfred's average margin of defeat is a whopping 20.0 points; the Saxons average 56.0 points per game, but have surrendered 76.0 points per contest.
- Amanda Off, a 6-foot senior forward, leads the team with 16.1 points and 7.5 rebounds per game.
- Off tied her career high with 29 points in the recent win over the Pioneers of Utica. She also added 12 rebounds and five blocks in the game en route to this week's E8 Women's Basketball Player of the Week award.
- Off is fourth in the conference in points, sixth in rebounds, and is second among qualifiers in the E8 with a 43.8 field goal percentage.
- Freshman guard Jamie Wilcox is second on the team with 12.1 points per game, while her 40 steals pace the Saxons.
