ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team faced their biggest challenge of the season this afternoon at Campus Field, as the Soaring Eagles battled the No. 20 nationally-ranked Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology. Elmira dropped today's Empire 8 Conference tilt by a 20-1 final score.
A 12-goal first quarter paved the way for Stevens' win this afternoon. Tommy Dawson scored just 56 seconds into the contest, the first of his three goals in the opening six minutes. Anthony LaRusso '17 scored Elmira's lone goal of the afternoon at the 8:26 mark. From there, Stevens saw four different players find the back of the cage in the final 23 minutes of regulation to seal a double-digit conference win.
Cameron Prior '17 got the start in net today for EC and made five saves in 7:07 of action.
Mike Chaderjian '19 came in for relief duty midway through the first quarter and amassed 10 saves in just under 53 minutes of action between the posts.
Turning Point
A lopsided shot total in the first quarter helped Stevens jump out to an insurmountable 12-0 lead. The Ducks peppered Elmira with 23 first-quarter shots, 18 of which made their way on target, while the Soaring Eagles were held to just two attempts in the opening 15 minutes of the contest.
