ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College field hockey team will take a short hiatus from its Empire 8 Conference schedule to challenge the College at Brockport on Tuesday, September 19. The non-league bout is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Golden Eagles' Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium.

LAST TIME OUT
The Soaring Eagles suffered a 5-0 setback at the hands of E8 foe Washington & Jefferson College on Saturday, September 16, at the Murray Athletic Center. EC was unable to overcome an early 2-0 deficit, as the Presidents scored twice in the first 12:33. Despite the result, both Elmira keepers performed admirably. Sophomore Tina O'Donnell '20 got the start and tallied three saves in 35 minutes of action, which increased her team lead in the category to 46. In the second half, senior Julie Hockenberger '18 stepped in and made five saves on eight shots faced. The Manlius, New York, native's five stops tied a season high for the keeper. On the offensive end of the field, Atu Machika '18 led the Soaring Eagles with three shots, but was unable to tally her first goal of the season.

SCOUTING BROCKPORT
Riding a season-long five-game losing streak, the Golden Eagles enter Tuesday's bout with a 1-5 record. Brockport last played on Saturday, September 16, when it fell to E8 foe Hartwick College by a 3-1 final score. Under first-year head coach Krista Archambeau, the Golden Eagles' main problem has been their inability to generate offense. Through six games, Brockport has just one goal and ranks last in the seven-team State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) in shots per game (4.7). In their lone win of the season, the Golden Eagles ended regulation and overtime knotted at 0-0 with Keuka College, until Julia Weyant scored the game-winning goal in a penalty stroke shoot out. In goal, junior Sarah Beam has done her best to keep Brockport's games close, as she has recorded a conference-leading 83 saves in 433:52 minutes played. Weyant's 13.83 saves per game average ranks eighth in all of Division III.

SERIES HISTORY VS. GOLDEN EAGLES
The all-time series between these two feathered foes has leaned in favor of Brockport. In the seven previous meeting, the Golden Eagles own a perfect 7-0 record against the Soaring Eagles. The two programs have not squared off since the 2006 campaign, when Brockport handed Elmira a 4-2 road loss.

LOOKING AHEAD
EC field hockey will return to the E8 portion of its docket on Saturday, September 23, with a road matchup against the Stevens Institute of Technology. The league bout is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. at the DeBaun Athletic Complex in Hoboken, New Jersey.
