ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Elmira College field hockey will conclude its season-long four-game road tour this Saturday, September 30, when the Soaring Eagles visit the Knights of SUNY Geneseo for an 11:00 a.m. non-conference matinee.

LAST TIME OUT
EC returned from its brief excursion up Route 13 following a 5-0 setback at the hands of the Ithaca College Bombers on Wednesday evening. IC tallied two goals in the opening two-and-a-half minutes of play to secure a lead it would never relinquish. The Soaring Eagles were outshot by a wide 32-to-5 margin, with all five EC shots coming from rookie forward Janie Kempf '21, but her lone attempt on goal was saved. In the cage, senior goalie Julie Hockenberger '18 made 16 saves for the Soaring Eagles, her second consecutive start with double-digit stops.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Hockenberger reached a career milestone during Wednesday's loss against Ithaca and is one the verge of another. With 16 saves, the fourth-year goalie increased her career total to 405, becoming just the fifth player in program history to amass over 400 saves. The Manlius, New York, native needs just 11 more saves to surpass Ann Phillips '07 (415) for fourth-place all-time on Elmira's career saves leaderboard.

ALL-TIME SERIES
This weekend's meeting between the Soaring Eagles and Knights will mark the third consecutive season in which the non-conference foes have squared off. Overall, EC and Geneseo have previously met on 13 occasions in the all-time series, with the Knights boasting a 12-1 record in those contests. The lone victory for the Purple and Gold came in the 2003 season, when the Soaring Eagles defeated Geneseo on its home turf by a narrow 2-1 score.

SCOUTING SUNY GENESEO
The Knights may have a 4-5 overall record, but they've faced some stiff competition throughout the first half of the 2017 season. On September 6, Geneseo recorded a signature win on the road against No. 20-ranked William Smith by a 4-3 score, only to fall to No. 11 Skidmore, 4-0, at home three days later. The Knights were also defeated 3-1 by St. John Fisher, the reigning Empire 8 Conference champion, and 3-2 by current SUNYAC leader SUNY Oneonta in double overtime. Despite the ups and downs, Geneseo was clicking on all cylinders in its most recent match, a 6-1 blowout of Keuka on Wednesday, September 27. Led by senior forwards Giovanna Fasanello and Cara Stafford, the high-powered offense ranks second in the SUNYAC with 3.1 goals per game. Individually, Fasanello is second with 20 points (8g-4a), while Stafford is fourth in the league with 16 points (6g-4a).

LOOKING AHEAD
The Soaring Eagles return home for the first time since September 17 to host the Cardinals of St. John Fisher on Saturday, October 7, at the Murray Athletic Center in a 1:00 p.m. Empire 8 matchup.
