ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Elmira College women's volleyball team couldn't keep pace with Stevens and St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon, falling in a pair of Empire 8 Conference matches on the campus of St. John Fisher.

Match 1
The Soaring Eagles challenged Stevens in their first match of the day but couldn't usurp the conference leaders as the Ducks earned a straight-set victory. Tiara John '19 led the Purple and Gold's attack with 11 kills to go along with 11 digs to finish with a double-double.

Stevens jumped out to an early lead in the first set before a kill from Savannah Terry '21 cut the deficit to four at 10-6. The Ducks responded with a 5-0 run to take a 14-7 lead over the Soaring Eagles. EC was able to pull within three at 22-19 on a kill from Kaylene Sauschuck '22, but couldn't get closer than that as Stevens took the opener 25-21.

The Purple and Gold took advantage of early miscues by Stevens in the second set to take an 11-9 lead. After the Ducks regained the advantage, John floored a kill to make it 16-14, but the Ducks responded with a 5-0 run to take a 21-14 lead. Lydia Millgan '21 halted the barrage, but Stevens kept rolling to win the set 25-16.

A 7-0 run by the Ducks in the third set was the difference as the Soaring Eagles couldn't recover from the 16-9 deficit. Natalie Schieder '19 was able to slow the Ducks with a kill, but EC couldn't string together consistent offense as Stevens took the final set 25-14.

Match 2
EC closed the day with a matchup against the Cardinals of St. John Fisher. The host Cardinals proved too much to handle for the Purple and Gold, as St. John Fisher took the match in straight sets. Schieder led the team in both kills (7) and digs (11), while Taylor Kaznowski '19 finished with a double-double, posting 15 assists and 10 digs.

The Cardinals were able to jump out to a 14-9 lead in the opening stanza, forcing Elmira into a timeout. EC was able to battle back into the set after a kill from Schieder pulled the Purple and Gold within three at 21-18. The Soaring Eagles couldn't complete the comeback however; as St. John Fisher held on to take the first set, 25-20.

The second set was a back and forth affair, as EC challenged St. John Fisher every step of the way. Elmira pushed ahead at 10-9 on a kill from Schieder, but the Cardinals kept the Purple and Gold from seizing the momentum, sneaking ahead with a 20-16 lead. It was all St. John Fisher from there, as the Cardinals won the final five points to seal a 25-17 win.

After slipping behind 12-5 in the third set, the Soaring Eagles pulled back within two with a 6-0 run, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Terry and Schieder. Schieder pushed the Purple and Gold ahead with a kill at 15-14, but the Cardinals responded with a 7-0 run to break the set open. EC couldn't recover as St. John Fisher took the final set of the day, 25-17.
