PINE VALLEY, N.Y. -- Stevens Institute of Technology spoiled this afternoon's Class of 2019 Recognition Day for the Elmira College women's tennis team, as the Soaring Eagles dropped a 9-0 decision to the Ducks at the Murray Athletic Center.
 
Stevens jumped out of the gates by claiming all three doubles matches, dropping just one game in the process. Singles action proved to be much of the same, as the Ducks won all six contests, five of which ended in straight sets.
 
The most competitive match of the afternoon took place at No. 3 singles, as second-year standout Katy Jewett '21 pushed Stevens' Isabella Calandra to three sets.
 
After dropping the opening set, 6-2, Jewett found herself in an early 3-0 hole in the second stanza. Jewett won three of the next four games to tighten the set at 4-3, and would eventually go on to win three straight to close out the set, 6-4, and force a third. With this afternoon's overall match already decided, a super tiebreaker was played in place of a full third set. Despite a fiery effort by Jewett, she eventually fell in the super breaker, 10-3.
