The Elmira College men's ice hockey team battled Stevenson University to a 2-2 overtime draw today at the Murray Athletic Center, EC's final regular-season home game of 2017-18. In the bout, which served as the Soaring Eagles' Class of 2018 Recognition Day, the Purple and Gold honored Mitch Atkins '19 as the only graduating member of the team this season.

Trailing 1-0 in the first period, Elmira answered with a Connor Powell '20 tally at the 7:31 mark of the stanza. Powell's strike was a beautiful slap shot from the left side of the Mustangs' net, which came off of a faceoff win by Matthew Cuce '20. Powell's shot glided just left of Stevenson's starting netminder Jacob Caffrey.

The Mustangs were able to retake the lead about 11 minutes later with a goal from Colin Woods. Woods was set up on the doorstep of Elmira's net when he chipped a Justin Stelzer pass right by the Purple and Gold's starting goalie, Gennaro Anzevino '21.

EC was again able to tie the score, this time at 2-2 with a goal from Spencer MacLean '21 at the 1:20 mark of the second period. MacLean scooped a loose puck off of his own miss at the Stevenson net and buried the rebound just past Caffrey. Calvin Hughson '20 and Anthony Parrucci '20 both got assists on the score.

It was at this point that both starting goalies settled in, as neither team would find the back of the net for the next 23 minutes and 40 seconds. Anzevino made five saves in third and overtime periods combined. For the game, the South Hackensack, New Jersey, native made 24 stops to improve to 6-4-2 on the season.
