YORK, Pa. --
The Elmira College baseball team was swept by the York College of Pennsylvania in a non-conference doubleheader today at Jaquet Field in York, Pennsylvania.

In the opener, EC held a 9-8 lead after seven-and-a-half innings until a 13-run bottom of the seventh for the Spartans blew the contest wide open. EC was unable to recover from this onslaught, ultimately falling by a 22-10 final score.

In the nightcap, York built off its momentum from the first tilt to storm ahead 16-1 after five innings, at which point the game was called due to darkness.

Game One
The two teams traded blows for much of the first few innings, as the Soaring Eagles went into the fifth trailing 6-2. In that frame, Elmira plated six runs of its own to go ahead 8-6. With two men on Dennis Rudolph '18 started the EC push with a single to left that scored Sam Plaugher '20 from third, one of his three runs in the contest. The highlight of the inning came from Jack Volpe '20, who sent his first career home run over the left field wall to plate three.

With another RBI from Volpe, his fourth of the contest, Elmira possessed a 9-8 advantage after six-and-a-half frames. It was at this point, however, that the Spartans scored 13 runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a commanding 21-9 lead, a lead that they would not relinquish.

As for Elmira's pitching, Conor Bawiec '18 made the start and went 4.0 innings and allowed six earned runs and struck out four. Joe Kidd '18 was credited with the loss, as he allowed five runs, all earned, in 1.0 innings.

Game Two
In the second bout of the day, York again built its momentum early by taking a 4-1 advantage after two innings. The lone Elmira run came on a throwing error by the Spartan's first baseman that allowed Rudolph to score from third on a suicide squeeze attempt by Volpe.

For the second consecutive tilt, York blew the game wide open in the middle innings, this time with 12 combined runs across the fourth and fifth frames. With such a wide scoring margin, the contest was ended after the fifth inning.

Andy Reed '19 made the start for the Purple and Gold and allowed 11 of the 16 runs, seven of which were earned, over 3.2 innings. Freshman Alex Crysler '21 made his first career appearance in relief and allowed five earned runs with one strikeout across 1.1 innings pitched.
