ELMIRA, N.Y. --
The Elmira College men's lacrosse team was handed a 12-2 loss by the Tigers of visiting SUNY Cobleskill in the 2018 home opener on Saturday afternoon at nearby Notre Dame High School.

The Tigers needed little time before jumpstarting their offensive attack in the opening period. After winning the game's first faceoff, Cobleskill needed a mere 52 seconds before Sean Degnan netted the first goal. Less than three minutes later, Jeremy Mowrey doubled the lead for the Tigers, and 40 seconds later Ian Eckert made it a 3-0 score.

SUNY Cobleskill raced out to a 6-0 lead in the second quarter before the Purple and Gold ended their scoring drought. Kevin DiMagno '20 deposited an unassisted tally past Tiger goalie Willie Wilson at the 5:12 mark of the second quarter, the first goal of his collegiate career, to reduce the deficit to 6-1.

DiMagno, a second-year midfielder from Fairport, New York, did a little bit of everything for the Soaring Eagles in his 2018 debut. In addition to his goal, he posted eight ground balls, four faceoff wins, and three caused turnovers.

Although the Tigers entered the halftime break up 8-1, Jacob Magnoli '18 recorded the first goal of the second half to trim the Cobleskill advantage to six goals. EC managed to hold the Tigers off of the scoreboard for a span of 17:31 bridging the second and third quarters, but Degnan and Mowrey struck again in the final minutes of the third to widen the gap for the Tigers, 10-2, heading into the last quarter. They tacked on two more goals in the fourth to reach the final tally.

In goal for Elmira, freshman Richie Cameron '21 made his first career start in his second appearance. He made seven saves and grabbed a team-high seven ground balls while playing all 60 minutes in the cage. On defense, Cam Brickey '19 caused a team-high-tying three turnovers and scooped up five ground balls.
