ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College baseball team will play a trio of crucial Empire 8 Conference games on the road this weekend against the Highlanders of Houghton College. The three-game series begins with a nine-inning game on Friday, April 20, at 5:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon.

LAST TIME OUT
	- The Soaring Eagles faced their toughest challenge of the season on Saturday, April 14, when they dropped both ends of a doubleheader vs. No. 10 SUNY Cortland, 8-1 and 17-0.
- EC produced only four hits combined, while Eddie O'Donnell IV '18 scored the team's only run in the first game.
- Conor Bawiec '18 tossed 5.0 innings in the opener and gave up five runs (four earned) with two strikeouts.
- In the nightcap, Anthony Colegrove '18 did not allow an earned run in 1.1 innings of relief.

SCOUTING HOUGHTON
	- The Highlanders, who are a tick below .500 at 11-12 overall, appear to be trending upwards in 2018.
- Houghton is 4-6 in Empire 8 play after winning just three conference games in all of 2017.
- The four conference wins were earned by winning two-of-three in their series against SUNY Canton and Utica.
- On Wednesday, April 18, the Highlanders will face Ithaca College in a doubleheader to finish their season series.
- Last time out, Houghton scored 10 runs in the first inning en route to a 15-5 win over the 'Roos.
- The Highlanders pace the E8 with a .321 team batting average, led by sophomore outfielder David Wessells, who is second in the league with a .398 batting average.
- Wessells is one of six everyday starters with an average above .335.

LOOKING AHEAD
Elmira is scheduled to host the Express of Wells College in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, April 24, at 3:00 p.m. at historic Dunn Field.
