HORSEHEADS, N.Y. – The Elmira College Soaring Eagles baseball team closed their Empire 8 series with Russell Sage earlier this afternoon at the Holding Point. Elmira closed the regular season after just missing the mark in an 18-1 ballgame.
PLAY-BY-PLAY
The Gators took an early lead over EC with two runs on one hit in the top of the first inning. In the bottom of the first, Elmira responded with their lone run of the game. With two outs,
Connor Stone ripped a double to center field to place himself in scoring position.
Sean Deaner exhibited strong discipline at the plate to draw a walk and place runners on first and second.
Brandon Policar reached first on a fielding error, seeing Stone take advantage of the Gators error to score and cut the deficit to one (2-1).
Russell Sage continued to add to their lead with three runs on five hits in the top of the second (5-1).
Bobby Cavalier opened the bottom of the second with a single through the five-six hole followed by
Brenden McGar with a hit-by-pitch.
Alex Dinicola reached on a fielder's choice, but EC was unable to push the runs across. The Gators were an offensive force to be reckoned with, scoring another 13 runs over six innings to see Elmira fall short, 18-1.
LEADERS
Cavalier led the way offensively, going 3-4 at the plate.
Jordan Barthel, Stone, and
CJ Wheaton each recorded one hit apiece. Sean Denner and Stone both recorded a walk as well.
