ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College baseball team is set for a busy weekend of games, as the Soaring Eagles welcome both the Rochester Institute of Technology and SUNY Canton to Dunn Field for weekend bouts. The Soaring Eagles battle the Tigers first on Friday at 5:00 p.m., before taking on the Roos in three Empire 8 Conference games on Saturday and Sunday.
Â
SENIOR DAY
Saturday's game has been designated Class of 2018 Recognition Day. What sets this game apart from previous Senior Day ceremonies is that the Class of 2018 represents EC baseball's first-ever class of four-year letter winners. These seniors have spent their collegiate careers building the young program from the ground up, and for that, they are thanked for their hard work.Â
Â
JANSEN GOES YARD
Second-year infielder
Jansen Crossley '20 may have had his six-game hitting streak come to an end in EC's 18-10 home win over Wells College on Tuesday, April 24, but he bounced back on Thursday evening. The Vancouver, British Columbia, native slugged his first career home run in a narrow 11-10 loss against Keuka College and finished with a season-high three RBIs.

SCOUTING RIT
The Tigers, who won the Liberty League Tournament last season and made an appearance in the NCAA Regionals, have not found the same success thus far in 2018. RIT are a game over .500 with a 12-11 overall record. A year removed from going 21-1 in the challenging Liberty League, RIT is 8-7 this season after splitting a conference doubleheader against Clarkson University in its most recent action. The departure of outfielder Will Gorman, RIT's first-ever four-time All-Liberty League selection, three-time First Team pick and three-time ABCA/Rawlings All-New York Region First Teamer, has left a whole in the Tigers' lineup. RIT's team batting has dropped from .304 in 2017 to .258 this year. Junior Patrick Mylott has had to pick up much of the slack, as he paces the team in batting average (.355) and runs (18). On the mound, senior Brian Reed is 4-2 with a 4.28 ERA in six appearances, and paces the pitching staff in wins, innings (33.2), and strikeouts (37).
Â
SCOUTING THE 'ROOS
The Kangaroos are 6-23 overall with half of their wins coming against Empire 8 Conference competition. Their most recent win came in the series opener over Ithaca College on April 21, but that was followed by four consecutive losses to the Bombers and St. John Fisher College. Infielder Wilson Matos has been a standout player, as he leads the squad in average (.330), hits (34), extra-base hits (10), slugging percentage (.505) and on-base percentage (.400). Jake Vierno leads the starting rotation with a 4.66 ERA and 33 strikeouts in seven starts. Vierno has struggled with command, however, as he has issued 38 walks in 36.2 innings.

UP NEXT
On Tuesday, May 1, Elmira heads to Alfred, New York, to face the Pioneers of Alfred State College. The non-conference matchup is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch.
