ELMIRA, N.Y. -- The Elmira College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Nazareth College 16-1 on Saturday afternoon in the 2018 United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/HEADstrong Cancer Awareness Game, hosted by the Soaring Eagles at Notre Dame High School.
Nazareth, reigning Empire 8 Conference Tournament champion, scored 15 unanswered goals across the first three quarters. The offensive outburst was generated from the faceoff dot, as the Golden Flyers limited the Soaring Eagles to a season-low two faceoff wins on 21 attempted draws.
EC's lone goal of the afternoon came in the fourth quarter when
David Keisler '20 buried a feed from classmate
Kevin DiMagno '20. The goal is the second in as many games for Keisler, a sophomore from Clifton Park, New York. The assist is DiMagno's fourth and extended the second-year midfielder's point streak to six consecutive games to start the 2018 season.
DiMagno also led the Purple and Gold with a season-high-tying 10 ground balls, accounting for nearly half of Elmira's team total of 24.
In goal, freshman
Jacob Mattice '21 registered a single-game season-high 22 saves in 58:37 of playing time. It marks Mattice's fourth outing of the year with double-digit saves and his second with 20-or-more as a rookie.
