ELMIRA, N.Y. -- Fresh off of an exhilarating 14-10 extra-inning, come-from-behind win over Alfred State on Tuesday afternoon, the Elmira College baseball team will return home to historic Dunn Field for a 6:00 p.m. non-conference contest against the Wildcats of Pennsylvania College of Technology on Wednesday, May 2.
LAST TIME OUT
The Soaring Eagles overcame a three-run deficit in the ninth and scored four times in the 10th to secure a 14-10 extra-inning victory on the road against Alfred State on Wednesday afternoon. Elmira led 5-4 after five innings of play, but the Pioneers scored a combined six runs across the next three innings to pull ahead 10-7. EC loaded the bases in the top of the ninth and recorded RBIs on a
Matt van Muelken '18 ground ball, a
Dennis Rudolph '18 base hit and a
Cameron Heggie '18 sac fly to even the score. Then in the 10th, back-to-back walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with nobody out for the Soaring Eagles. van Muelken played hero by lacing a bases-clearing, three-run double into left field that plated the game-winning runs. Heggie's RBI single then drove in van Muelken for an insurance run, and
Joe Kidd '18 worked around a pair of two-out singles for a scoreless inning on the mound in the bottom of the 10th.
Conor Bawiec '18Â and
Tommy Fogarty' 20 both recorded three hits, while van Muelken's four RBIs led all batters.

SERIES HISTORY

REPEATING HISTORY
In Elmira's 11-2 win over Penn College back in 2016,
Nick Sampogna '18 smacked his first career home run. During this past Sunday's sweep of SUNY Canton, the left-handed batter went yard again in almost the exact same spot beyond right field. Sampogna is one of five EC hitters with a homer in 2018.

SCOUTING PENN COLLEGE
The Wildcats of Pennsylvania College of Technology are looking to return to the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) title game after finishing as runners-up in 2017. In their most recent contests, a non-league doubleheader on Tuesday, April 24, the Wildcats earned a pair of big wins over NCAA Division II foe, Mansfield University. In the opener, Penn College beat the Mountaineers 5-2, before completing the sweep with an 11-6 win. Guiding the Wildcats at the plate and on the mound are reigning All-NEAC First Teamers Ben Flicker and Max Blair. Flicker, a second-year third baseman, was named the NEAC Rookie of the Year last year and is batting .396 with a team-best 42 hits in 2018. Senior right-hander Blair is tied for the team-lead with three wins in six starts. He paces the staff in strikeouts (28) and leads all starters with a 2.87 ERA. Also keep an eye out for first baseman Colton Riley, a freshman who has slugged a team-high 15 extra-base hits and eight home runs.
LOOKING AHEAD
The Soaring Eagles will conclude the 2018 regular season with the last of a three-game Empire 8 Conference series against Ithaca College on Friday, May 4, at 4:00 p.m.
